Hi, I think this chick has spraddle leg. Is it just worn out from that or is there something else going on?

I've made a little leg splint thing from a hairband and a piece of straw and it's getting around a bit better now. But it keeps opening and closing its mouth.

35 ISH hours old, it did need assistance when unzipping, I guess due to the legs.

I've been dipping her beak in water and food regularly, but she doesn't seem to be improving 😢
Can chicks have Battles Poultry Drink? Anything else I can do?? She's got a very loud chirp when she wants!

Thanks for all your help. I know it's still early days, but she is a bit stronger today and not opening her beak so often🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Great to hear!

Sometimes if they have a difficult hatch they can come out still with their navel open.

The yawning/swallowing motion with the beak is typically seen during hatch when they have externally pipped but are still absorbing the yolk into their bodies through their navel. The navel closes and then they unzip and complete the hatch.

That makes sense - I've been doing regular checks to make sure all the back end is clean. I will keep you all updated 🤞🤞🤞
