Spring 2011 RAISE-A-LONG!

Count me in,

This is my first flock. I got 6 chick from TSC on 3-5-11 4 sex link red girls (i think) and 2 batums i think one is a boy not sure the breed.

Their names are

Tink
Ginger
Twinkie
Scarlet
Thumbelina aka Teeny (batum)
Fiesty (batum)

at the moment their brooder is a large carboard box i added a roost last night and they really seem to like it. I've having a bit of a problem with shavings in the water because the girls love to scratch and throw shavings everywhere. i'm going to elevate their waterer tonight and make steps so Thumbelina can drink she's so so little.

I spoil my little guys They are much more friendly towards me than the others now. . .
For the big guys - We took the cage with our bigger chicks outside again today, it is ok for them to eat the greens under the cage when we take them out, right? I can't remember if you're supposed to wait for a certain age before letting them graze.

I brought home 2 New Hampshire Red babies Monday from Murdock's in Bozeman... I could not resist. I only want 5 or 6 (or more with chicken math) I am waiting for babies to be ready from cackleberrycoop and then I *should* be set...but we all know how that goes

Hey all, I'm new here and new to raising chickens. Brought home 6 chicks the other day, they are about a week and a half old. And just brought home two ducklings today

If you have a broody or an incubator you should check out the swap threads. Although you have to have some eggs to offer in return, there are always silkies being offered. When I accept somebodys offer I always offer silkie eggs. It's all I have right now anyway.

Thanks for the tip. I have eggs I can offer they can be barn yard mix and found out that the roo and hen i have are Silver lace Wyndotte LOL. Someone told me it was a Ameracauna. I am going to see if I can find the thread.

Update::

My girls are in love with their new roost I also added a scrap piece of wire closet shelving to their box last night and Tink was using it like steps this morning I wish i had had my camera

I just peaked into the bator window and saw one of my EE's moving so we have life in one of the eggs. So maybe later today we will have babies. Put out a posting for a web cam on freecycle. Mine stopped wrking last night. Trying to get it set up on U stream so my niece and nephews can watch from Az. And my mom from her house.
