Spring 2011 RAISE-A-LONG!

Ok I am dying of cuteness overload over here. We got our day olds last night, and I've never been so close to such tiny chicks. I got:
2 Mille Fleur Belgian D'Uccles
2 Welsummers
2 Rhode Island Reds
and 3 Ameraucanas (I couldn't decide between them all)
I'm not actually sure if the Ameraucanas would be considered purebred here. The parents are all from purebred stock and she's never used any other breeds, but she does mix the different colours to try and get new and interesting ones.

Doesn't really bother me either way.

My favourites so far are the Belgian D'Uccles. They are so tiny and their fluffy feet are just adorable! Okay, I'm done gushing for now.

Here's a pretty terrible pic from last night when I first put them in the brooder. (I've since added marbles to their water dish.) I'm hoping to get some better pictures this morning.

those are to cute. Have fun with them . I love watching the baby chicks grow up. I have had mine a week now and they have grown a lot sense then. I just added a black silkie to my mix and it was born the same day as my others.

25 chicks

75 chicks total but I sold 3 today so we have 72 left

Tub 2 and 3 are going to be sold and then in April I have 3 more sets of chicks that will be hatched out all will be due just before Easter
or day before Easter.

We have 5 day old red stars. Their names are Annie and Clarabelle (a 4 year old Thomas Tank Engine fan named them after characters on the show), Copper and TerraBird (after the dinosaur). As you can see they are all named by the kids and will be future pets. Brooder is a plastic bin with the EcoGlow. We are having a great time with them!

it's week 3 of chick ownership and my flock is now at 18 i'm horrible at chicken math

.

My 4 week old girls(production reds) are doing great and going thru the "uglies" and my 4 week old batums never really went thru the uglies and little Teeny looks like she's grown a foot over night

My 3 week old Blue Andalusions and Silver Spangle haven't started the uglies yet but Ray Ray one of my blue's looks more like a lanky teenager everyday and my 3 week old feather footed batums are still fuzzy and everyone is really enjoying the longer box and the higher roost and the bigger feeder and waterer

My newbies are don't great too. I added 6 to my flock yesterday shame on Buchiets for having cute chicks. I had every intention of just getting two fuzzy tops in honor of my granddaddy since it was his b-day yesterday but then I saw the teeny tiny bantums and couldn't resist because they were so so tiny and the bin was way to crowded so we "rescued" 4 of the smallest ones and the one my daughter "rescued" i was pretty sure wasn't going to make it but we took her home anyway and she held her all the way home because the others were pecking at her so when we got her home we tried to get her to take some sugar water but we only got a few drops in her she lived about an hour after we got home so that's when i hear this voice telling me to go get that girl another chick(it was my granddaddy) so i listened and when we back to get another chick and when we got there i happen to see the manager who helped us earlier and he said back again and i said yes one of the chicks we got earlier didn't make it so we've come to get another one and he said we normally don't do refunds i said i know we've just came to get a replacement so he daughter to come with him and he goes back to the chicks and says pick you another one and guess what she's picks she picks a Turken pullet

I'm also on cloud nine because my uncle aka Dad told me to bring the pictures of the coop i've been looking at over and i obey'ed like a good daughter does and he tells my aunt to write this down and he starts spouting off all this numbers and measurements and says something like i'll get all this gathered up this week i should have enough left from the barn the amish have just gotten done building thier new barn they lost the old one to a fire on new years day so it looks like my girls are going to have a nice coop after all

Sorry about my lack of activity on this thread, guys, I am currently trying to get over a bout of larangitis.

The sad part is that the past few days, my sister has taken care of the chicks, and I haven't been able to see them.
