Spring 2017 first timers post!

I put the nipple waterer in the brooder today. I was afraid they wouldn't learn to use it. However, the opposite is true. They have been drinking out of it non stop for the last hour. Is it possible that they can get too much water? They're obsessed!

Welcome all new members! My question is this: all you folks with 15, 20, 30 chickens what the heck are you going to do with all those eggs?

. I have 10 chicks but two definite cockerels and maybe at least one more so I'll probably have about 6 or 7 layers. That's a lot of eggs! Just curious. I know chicken math is a real thing. There are so many cool breeds and they are so beautiful and fun to watch but that's a whole lotta eggs

. And also how big are your coops for this many chickens? I'm limited by my coop size. My coop is about 36 square feet. So can't put too many in there. I guess I'm asking because I know I will want more next year but just not sure how to manage it with all those extra eggs and room in the coop.
I have coworkers asking if they can buy eggs already! I told them about my BCMs and Australorps and that I'll be feeding the herbs and natural feed to make sure they have lots of omega 3s, and then they started asking for eggs. ( I'm not really a crazy chicken lady. I'm a nurse!)

Yeah we will definitely have more eggs than what we need right now. We will give some away, sell some, store some and eat some. One of my kids said they'd use some to egg houses. I said they won't if they want to live. They were joking, of course.

All my neighbors and friends are asking for eggs, too! I have a similar plan with herbs. Hoping they will curb the growth of my oregano and tarragon! Both are growing like weeds.

My 6 girls are now just over a week old and are so much fun!
Here's the one who stands out most. Her name is Cersei.

How are your peeps doing these days?

Getting 36 - straight run. So eating most of the cockerels. Excess eggs I'm hoping to sell. Around here that can be quite difficult due to regulations, but I'm hoping to find enough people to buy.
And I live on a farm with two existing chicken coops (one fixed up and currently boarding 4 leghorns, the other needs repair as well), so space isn't a problem.
My chicks are doing awesome! After a rough start all is well thank goodness. How's the weather been up there? Its getting nice finally down here in MA. You're lucky to live on a farm. I've been looking for more acreage for years. We have a little over an acre mostly cleared but there is also 9 acres of protected land right behind my house (wooded) but the neighborhood owns it jointly. I would love to find a smaller house on about 5 acres or more but I'm picky and so is my DH. I really wanted an antique house with a barn but so far none have worked out. Many antique houses around here are set right on the road and I just don't want that etc. So now we are talking about buying some land and building. My second child is off to college in the fall and I have one more in high school so its time to downsize on the house and upsize on the land

This neighborhood was great for my kids growing up but now we need more space for my animals. But with two kids in college and another that wants to go to medical school we have to keep our finances in mind. Would it be bad if I just told my kids they have to pay for their own college because I want more chickens?
