This stuff is great to have on hand. I keep a supply and just a note, my local store seems to run out quickly once everyone starts getting chicks this spring & summer. Just FYI

Hi everyone! We got our chicks yesterday- 2 easter eggers, 1 buff orp, 1 barred rock. Next week we are picking up 2 silkies.

Here's a picture of their current set up.

We are excited to get them into their coop, but it needs a little more work. We also need (soon) to add extra security. In the last two days we've had a red tail hawk nearly crash into our back door and we've seen a bobcat. I fear our girls won't get much free range time.

Totally forgot to post a picture of my babies haha

Also, I have a question about brooders. My layer chicks (ones pictures) have plenty of room in the brooder I have them in. But I'm getting 25 Cornish crosses soon, what's a good sized brooder for them? Should 4x4 be enough?

4x4 gives them each a little over half a sq foot each. That's adequate for about 2 weeks. Those suckers poop a TON. The bigger the brooder for them, the better.

Quote:We placed our order on 1-26-17, maybe that is why we got our 2 EEs. I just checked availability now at Meyer and there appears to be plenty EEs until March 13 and then there is just ONE. No more available till April 24, and the next week, when, again, only ONE is available. After that it seems that there are more chicks available. Sorry. BB

I'm a first time chick momma! I live in Central Alabama. Have been dreaming of these little babies for two years. We finally moved to the country last summer and are able to have them. We received our order from Meyer this past week! It has been exciting for our family. We got a mixed order of several breeds because I just couldn't choose between all the lovely choices! I wanted a colorful egg basket and mild tempered hens. We got our coop up but have some more finishing up to do before they move in. I'm also working hard on setting up my garden which will be deer fenced with a double fence which will act as a chicken moat for my flock to roam, while somewhat confined. We have hawks and I am terrified to just let them loose. Can't wait for warmer weather to let our little babies see real sunshine and earth!
