Spring 2017 first timers post!

I haven't started my coop yet. I will be having someone build the coop and I will build the run. I wanted to share my excitement to get my casts removed in two days. I have them on both legs. They are really hindering the chicken planning process and are quite uncomfortable. So, once they are off and I build some strength back then I can start preparing the yard. I am so excited!!!!
 
I am so excited! Looks like I will get some help framing up my coop next week, A friend of mine who is a better carpenter than myself has the week off between x-mas and new years and is willing to help. Although we are getting snow on x-mas eve... I hope we can get it done in the time he has.

PS, just checked the weather and although it will be cold no snow next week! I will be SO ready for chicks in April, I wish I could get them earlier now.. The fun part will be fixing it up on the inside, roost, roll out nest boxes, brooder and chicken jail I want to get it right from the start.

How great to have a coop large enough for a brooder and chicken jail! Is the chicken jail for a chicken that is picking on others or a chicken that is getting picked on? My coop is only half finished, I'm months away from getting my first chicks, and I'm already haunting Craigslist for a small, inexpensive but well-built coop (not so easy to come by) to use when I need to isolate a chicken for one reason or another. I did lots of research before deciding on the best way I could use the space I have for the coop and run, but I can already tell that this will continue to be a learning experience and I'll have to make changes as I go.

Congrats on starting the framing! It is so satisfying to see it go up. I think that and painting are the most gratifying steps of any project like this.

Chicken jail and brooder could be interchanged I guess. I know I will brood in the coop, and I figure I will need a chicken jail and broody buster I only want to do this once...

I just viewed your profile, and your order list. You've ordered some nice birds. I love a mixed flock. you're gonna have a lot of fun with them. Do you have your coop yet? How do you intend to brood them? If you haven't considered it, I'd suggest that you look at heating pad brooding. So very much better than using a heat lamp.

Other topics to consider: fermented feed, deep litter in both coop and run. Enjoy your little flock.
