Count me in, We are getting 6 chicks, 2 buff Orpington, 2 black Australop and 2 Plymouth barred rock hens. First time for us. We plan to build a 4x6 coop in a 10x10
Dog run with chicken wire on top. We have a small prefab coop we may use for a brooder. I was considering heating with either brinsea Eco glow or premier 1 brooder inside and later moving it to outside coop. We ordered our chicks for April 20-21 and are very excited total newbies!

Nice mix

Back when we raised some meat chickens we let one hen raise chicks for the next year. She had 15 babies and let us touch and handle them all. It all depends on how often you handle the hens when they are little and it also depends on how often you play with her chicks as well since they tend to be skittish around humans until you handle them as well. Being I was 5 years old I played with the hen when she was little and I played with her babies constantly so they were all very friendly.
