Spring and Fall thread clean-ups

Suggestion:

Twice a year we all go to our own threads and provide closure....updates, results etc.

Like when someone asks for help sexing a chick and many people try to help and advise and then we never hear the end result on what the chick turned out to be.

or a sick/injured chick, many people provide tons of help and advice and then there's no end post on what happened to the chicken.

I think there's a name for these threads, are they zombie threads or something like that?

Perhaps if we make it an official thing we can encourage posters to close their threads. Like make it a "Spring Cleanup week!"

We'd love for every thread to have a follow-up or closure post. The challenge is, how do we get members to do so?

This topic has come up a lot over the years, abd the general consensus seems to always be that members reply to these unfinished threads and tagging the original posters name, ask how things turned out.

That sounds like a really good idea! What if we did a featured post by the staff twice a year encouraging people to update their threads, and then during that week (or day or whatever) we could also have members on the lookout for unfinished threads to comment and ask for closure? Not everyone will see it or participate but a featured thread and committed members could maybe help.

Exactly.... we can't force people to do it but if it is an official "Hey it's Spring(Fall) cleanup time!" maybe it will encourage some people to do it.

watching or not doesn't matter. If you didn't remember the threads you started, you would just go to your account and look for "your content" to see your threads. Then see if you could update any.

We've also talked about having some type of "thread resolved" flag / toggle that the original poster (OP) could select to say "this is finished". Then we could theoretically have an automated system that emails peeps with "unresolved threads" x months after the thread was started, and ask them to come back with updates.

True, but that still doesn't let viewers know if a certain medication ended up saving a bird, or if someone found a unique way to solve the problem they were facing. Still a good idea though to let us know it is at least solved!
