Spring Break hatching ..... We Hope :)

Weeeellll, it'll be good life/death lessons for them.
How old are the kids?

my two older ones are 7 & 11 (turning 12 the end of the month) and my youngest is 16 months. 😁 I told them when they named them that:

1) the name may not match the sex (in more simpler terms for them)
2) hatching eggs can be difficult & they may or may not make it.

So they sorta know. My oldest understands better, and it was all his that quit, but they’ve been taught by their father that things are just sleeping or pretending rather then telling them they’re dead. So I’ve had a bit of a struggle getting them to understand so my 7 year old only kinda understands. She believes as well that if they ‘don’t come back’ we can buy another - this is for anything that dies that isn’t human 😕. If it’s broke we can get another. The wonderful teachings of a sociopath

I will see them this weekend so we can talk about it 🤗

Day 23 ..... we got one baby! The worst hatch rate ever, but he or she is loud and strong!

I can’t post video it seems so I will get some pics shortly! S/he is black with black legs - so far since s/he is still wet.

Well it’s been over 24hrs since baby hatched. S/he still won’t open their eyes, isn’t fluffy, doesn’t talk much, and still sleeps a lot. We’ve been playing videos of peeping and clucking chicks and their mamma’s but other than laying on the phone during this, s/he seems sad. If I cheep at her/him, s/he’ll stand up, not for long, but it’s a reaction.

we’ve got more chicks on the way. We don’t want him/her to be lonely, but they most likely won’t be here ‘til Monday. I honestly did not think this little peep would last the night, but thankfully s/he is still here, even if in a tired state.

Can it open its eyes?
If not, need to wipe hatching gunk off eyes with warm wet cloth.
Dry toothbrush can help loosen the gunk on down to fluff it up.
Have you dipped beak?

Hi @aart, thank you for replying!! I thought it could, my partner was saying so, but Ihaven’t seen it. So I did do the warm water on a cloth thing and it seemed to make a big difference! Tho It’s eyes seem very watery, despite that it seemed to make a world of difference to the chick’s demener.

I have dipped the beak, a few times in both it’s water and food, but until about 10 mins ago, it didn’t seem to make an impact and I don’t think it’s eaten or drank since it hatched... as I said tho as if about 10 mins or more ago. After wiping the eyes I used one of my baby’s spoons with a warm water, honey, and salt mix.... it drank almost two spoonfuls! It was thirsty!!😞 and again the chicks personality seemed to brighten just a tad!

I will surly try again with the clothon its eyes and keep hand feedingthe water if I need to!

thanks again for replying!! The chattiness of the site seems to have drastically diminished and it was great to hear from someone! 🙂
