Well just finished doing the big Spring clean of the coop. (The run has yet to be done because there is snow a melting).

I’ve come to a couple conclusions:

1. I may need more ventilation. The straw was got incredibly wet/frozen through the winter.

2: Too much straw (this I’m pretty sure is due to too much humidity).

3. There’s a bit of roost bar, feed bin, nest box revamping I need to do before next winter.

Anyone else figure out this spring that you need to do something different next year?

Wet straw is definitely an issue to address!

I do my "spring cleaning" in summer now, as that gives my wood chips (my primary coop bedding) as much time to dry out as possible.

Now that we are into spring/summer months I put down wood chip.

I didn’t go with wood chip because the shed (coop) is up on piles & the floor is plywood with poly staples down. I was worried that the shavings wouldn’t be enough to keep them warm in our harsh winter weather. I’m in Canada & our winters get as low as -50 at times.
