Can someone tell me what a springer chicken is??? I have never heard this term before. Is it a hen or rooster? Age?
Thank you!

I was at an auction yesterday and they held out chickens and called them "springers" I bought 3 of them. To me they look like young hens.??

A cross between a chicken and a Welsh Springer Spaniel. Very rare, these days.

I would guess they meant spring chickens?

I imagine they are just meaning pullets that were hatched in the spring.
Meaning they are young and will be just coming into lay in the fall.

I think it might mean "birds of unknown parentage", as in Jerry Springer's "Who's your Daddy?" Or is tht Maury?
