That's a nice thought, and I thank you kindly for it. But I think it's because after the heart attack a few weeks ago I'm trying to quit smoking. So I figure all of the eggs are a test - if can handle the stress of incubating eggs and trying to hatch them out without a cigarette, I can handle anything!!

Thanks for the commiseration. Of the two zipping one made it fine and the other stopped.

These are from my own hen house and are barnyard mix. Figured I'd make my first hatch be with eggs I could afford to lose (XL tells me it costs me about a nickel's worth of feed for an egg). I set 40 and had a couple of clears then 5 quitters on day 7. There were some that I concluded were "iffy" on day 18. Anyway, I learned a lot by doing the HAL and following a lot of really good advice from the good folks here at BYC. But I'm definitely going to do some more "cheap hatches" before spending any $$ on eggs.

I'm going to leave my remaining eggs in the bator until Saturday just to see what happens next.
Good idea!! I'm waiting to buy eggs too. Maybe next year I can fake that I know what I'm doing. This year? Nope, complete NEWB!!!

Personally I found quitting harder than incubating..........but that's just me and I'm wired way different than most.

Good for you quitting!! And i agree if you can handle incubation induced stress you can handle it all!!

I know! I ordered just 9 eggs.  Figured that would be a nice, manageable number for my first time trying this.  @LocalYokel
won a dozen hatching eggs on the MPC Giveaway and gifted them to me.  Got them and the ones I ordered and there were extras packed in there, bringing the 21 expected to 28..  Then another contest and I won 3 Svart Hona eggs, which I gifted to another member because I had more than enough.  Hanging around another contest thread and won another 6 - opened the box and there were 11 in there.

And out of the original 28 eggs, 2 hatched.  The other 11 are on day 7.  Yeah, I just sit here and eggs happen.  :th

Sorry on the rough hatch @Blooie

If eggs keep Rollin in like this you'll hafta start a hatchery.... :lau

We have 12 serama chicks!

I need help though. One of them looks week. It doesn't move around to much, and it has it's eyes closed this morning. What should I do for it?
Congratulations!!!
( i have no idea! I think i read electrolytes, but it may just need time) ask @Sally Sunshine
