"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

Nope local pick up. The price was super cheap for Ancona ducks. Eggs started out at .83 cents each, now they are up to $1.87 which is still cheap but I would have expected better fertility.
I always plan on having a few early quitters, which can be caused by any number of things, but it's a different story if I ended up with a lot of infertile eggs. How many of the 10 were clears?

I ordered Ancona duck eggs.  Set 20 and now have 11 on day 17.  I think mine were rough handling too as only 3 appeared infertile.  I am almost at $5.50/egg.  But I am still cheaper than the minimums I need to reach to for shipped ducklings.  And my hatched chicks seemed SO MUCH healthier I really wanted to hatch them here.  Good luck on your cost per egg averages and your hatchings.
Good luck with your eggs.

8 clears, 1 quitter and 1 srambled (didn't set the scrambled)

That's exactly how I look at it. If I hatch 1/2 of the eggs from my order, I will still be in good shape. I couldn't possibly buy 15 live HRIR chicks (plus shipping) for what 30 eggs cost. Shipping's hard on chicks, too!

My new/used bator(ebay) made it.

Preset 1588. Fired it up. Held even temp thru out.

Retired my 10300 (lg). That bator gave me fits.

So set 41 eggs in it.

Have 4 in the hatcher off a test run of eggs.

2 are out. 3rd is slow to hatch. All royal palms.

4th I don't have hope for but left just in case.

I love goats, they eat poison ivy and all kinds of vines, bark, leaves, flowers and so on, and so on............but they are a fun animal. I woukd bring in my Sally to milk her and feed her peanut butter on crackers!
