"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

Carefully tap on the shell and see if you hear and cheeping. Have a bottle of water to spritz the eggs after you open the incubator.

I'm so afraid I'll kill it if it's still alive and there's several chicks I need to remove but afraid to do damage to this one so there's about 8 in there right now running around. And of course, my spray bottle has gone MIA!!!

So this egg has been pipped with that hole for quite awhile now...not 100% sure how long because I had to be gone a good part of the day but it hasn't made any progress in the couple hours I've been home...how long should I wait?? I'm not a picker and don't like to assist but if I NEED to, in order to save one, I totally will...

Thoughts??
They can take up to 24hrs to hatch.

Get a bowl or cup and dip your fingers in the water and gently sprinkle the eggs. It's how I hatched 2 eggs that I thought had quite. The hen left the nest and I wanted to show my kids what happened if they stayed to long. Put under a light and a few days later I woke to fluffy babies b

like chaos said 24 hours from pip to zip, I would probably try to wait a little longer, how may other eggs are still I there that you might be compromising?

I'll be right over :D Just go slow, keep it warm and moist and stop if you see blood or veins.
look a knight in shining armor! And they say chivalry is dead!!!

This is what I would do, 1st I would check to see if the membrane is dried out and if the chick is stuck, next I would mist the egg especially where the pip is but don't drown it. You just want to moisten the membrane. In the morning if the chick hasn't hatched. You can take a pair of tweezers and pick a little around the pip and check the chick. If it is ok carefully pull back a little more of the shell. If you see any blood, stop and wrap the egg in a moist towel and put it back in the incubator . In a few hours check it again and make sure it's ok and not stuck pull a little more shell away and if there is any blood, stop and wrap it in a moist paper towel and put it back into the hatcher and after awhile repeat the process and if need be,put a moist towel around the egg and put it back in the incubator. If for any reason I have to open my hatcher, I always have a mister with warm water in it and mist the eggs. Often times even though a chick may pip it may not hatch for around 24 hours and sometimes hasn't absorbed all of the yolk. Remember, NOT all chicks are going to make it but most do. Probably, for whatever reason, it's not meant to be. Good luck and have fun.
