"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

First hatch for 5-1 2016 the turkey hatched her chicks (not pols) This will be interesting to watch..... She is so proud of them.
My incubator is hatching to... I am so over ran with chicks......first to hatch was the Partridge Brahmas , than Cream Crest legbars Still hatching 40 eggs in there..
I'll have to have a chick sale
Picture later today don't want to open the incubator ...

My hatching is almost over. I ended up with broody momma #1 5 silkies
Momma # 2- 4 silkies
Momma # 3- still sitting but had one hatch last night and has a pip!
Incubator was all shipped eggs except for silkies- set 8 german bielefelder- 6 made it to lockdown 3 hatched two boys and a girl- 2 dead in shell malpositioned-1 late quitter
silkies 6 set 5 hatched one internally pipped then died because all the other chiks in the incubator flipped it over and smothered it
Barred rock 12 to lockdown 10 hatched-two dead in shell malpositioned
Lav orphingtons- 5 to lockdown- 4 hatched one dead in shell malpositioned
All the shipped eggs had Huge malpositioned air cells, I know my humidity was correct because my silkie eggs had perfect air cells and weight loss. It really is a miracle any of them hatched. I had 3-4 pip at the wrong end and make it out.

Went to get chick food and bought 2 speckled sussex and buff brahma chick at feed store......My husband says I am insane

I've got a web named Gravy & one more who pipped about 11 am who will be named Toast (my April HAL is probably gonna turn into a May HAL).

All righty! Our first hatch is officially over, incubator clean and ready to fire back up in a few days for round 2. We had 29 in lockdown, hatched 18, one of those got shrink wrapped and I didn't notice in time(piping on the underside) and one had issues form the beginning and only lived a day(it was so sad). All in all we are very happy with the first round. Excited to set some more. Thank you everyone for your great advice a long the journey. Hatch with you again soon!
Congratulations!

End of Hatch day total is 11 chicks. No pips in the bator with 14 eggs left in there.
Good luck with the last 14, different breed? Cool spots in your bator?

I KNEW I should have helped that pipped chick!! It started to make a bit more progress so I went to bed...found it DIS this morning!!

Captains Log - Day 29
I have 3 duck eggs that are still rocking. No pips. No peeps. No progress. I will keep them in the incubator for a few more days or if I smell something funky. At this point, however, I am not that optimistic that there will ducklings at our house this week.

I am crushed, disappointed and feel a little bit like a failure. I think the humidity was just too low. I may try again and join the May HAL (my husband told me to give it another shot).

Hope you get something out of them. :fl Ducks take forever to hatch. I've got three out who took between 42-46 hrs from pip to hatch and a 4th one who's almost at 26hrs. My first go around I got 2 ducks out of 12 eggs.

Well, didn't fare so well here at Oleo Acres. Out of 39 shipped eggs we got 3 chicks. All are healthy, hatched on their own, and the Australorp I wanted morphed into a Naked Neck sometime during incubation. The Good Lord and a broody hen are much better at this than me and a heated Styofoam box. :(

Hope you get something out of them.

Thank you so much! I know ducks are more difficult. Congrats on yours this time too. They really are so cute and you should be proud of them. Great job!

@Chaos18I have had a blast joining this group! Err... thread! My finally tally for April is 10 eggs set of game chicks 7 hatched then 1 died so I had a 70% hatch rate for my very first try. Not too bad then I set 44 eggs 7 ayam cemani which are are still going strong. 7 isabell leghorn horns of which 5 are still going. 20 barnyard mix I have 15 of those left. And I received 16 sizzle silkie eggs 6 were busted so I set 10. 8 are still in the bator one I think has 2 embryos in it....so.... we shall see. Have joined the May HAL with these remaining 35 eggs and I will add my 10 or so croads on Tuesday and the mypetchicken ones when they finally arrive they were shipped on the 26th not here yet. My pet chicken has informed me they will make it right somehow. I know it is USPS fault NOT MPC. So..... I have had fun I love my babies.

I finally got a picture to upload

Here are the 4 brahmas that hatched. From my experience (which is minimal) from this breeder the darker ones are the gold/black partridge and the one in the middle is the blue/gold partridge. I have hatched 1 splash from her in the past but it was very blond compared to the rest. All of the chicks are beautiful and I am so happy that I had a better hatch this time around
