They are very curious right now lol. They have to check to see if everything is food. But they are slightly skittish still, once you pet them a minute and they know you're not going to eat them they calm down and will cuddle right up to my daughters and I. They aren't too loud like I was expecting

Well, you do have a point..... There is a place with a sign near here that says duck eggs for sale... I might have to ask if they are fertile.

If not.... My neighbor has ducks... And I can get some fertile eggs from there once the ducks resume laying!

Everything I've read (here and elsewhere) says at lockdown you increase RH to 65% or thereabouts. I'm not questioning that, but can anyone explain the science of it? Why do we do that?

What everyone told you, some would say well a hen doesnt raise her humidity.... This is TRue HOWEVER, she doesnt have fans running under her bum to dry the eggs out!

Have a hen sitting on 24 eggs that should be hatching within next week, we aren't sure when she finally started to sit on them

The one with curled toes had one shoe come off this morning. The toes look good but she still seems weak in the legs and walking area. Her toe nails keep getting caught in the shelf liner. Should I cut them? Probably putting shaving down today. Today is day 2 should I put new shows on her if she is walking on the bottom of her feet now?

I Finally got an incubator after I had received numerous calls for chicks. So I set up my first hatch. 25 EE's, 4 silkies, 2 ducks and 2 geece eggs one of which is a double yolker. On Day 4 of candling i saw a blood ring on one of the duck eggs so lost that one...the rest are veining up nicely with a couple of ??'s. chickens are due 4/21 and waterfowl on 4/28.

The LG was at 100.1 all morning, I didn't touch it, then I come back and it says 105! Oh man this is frustrating. It looks like several of the eggs may have blood rings.
