"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

Do it. Pick up some Pekin hatching eggs while you are at it! :yesss:

LOL I just might!! Ya know, I actually do want ducks too! Figure they're pretty messy though but they sure are cute and pretty :p maybe I'll add some Welsh Harlequins, Swedish, or Runners too. And of course Pekins. This is turning into a rather expensive, extravagant endeavour :p

So you think it won't die or smother or something equally awful overnight? I don't want to abandon it. I just know if I keep watch over it all night I'm going to become apt to meddle with it. And I know I shouldn't. But there it is. A hole in its little shell. Poking at me poking at me. Look away!!
In the beginning, I know the culmination of anticipation for the past 3 weeks is now coming to a head, and it's natural to worry that it'll have been in vain... but try not to think negatively. You brought those eggs to the point where the chick is about to hatch! Congratulations! The chick will come out when it's ready... which is very seldom when you want them to. I hope you get to see it breaking out of it's shell, but more importantly, I hope you get to see it after it's out of it's shell. Relax, take a deep breath, and if at all possible, try to find something to keep you preoccupied for the next 24 hours.

You're very welcome! Trust me... if you had killed them, there would be no pip(s). You've managed to bring them this far, and you know for sure the one that pipped is very much alive. Do you see it pecking at the hole on occasion? If so, that means it's breathing. If it's breathing, it's developing it's lungs, drawing blood out of the external veins, absorbing it's yolk, and getting ready to make it's grand appearance. All of this takes time, so don't worry if it doesn't come bursting out of the shell once it makes an external pip. If it hasn't started zipping in 24 hours, then there may be an issue... but that's what we're here for. Are you starting to relax a little now?
