"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

OMG! Newly hatched showgirls are NOT cute! My daughter was watching it hatch with me. When it emerged from the shell it was all like pulsing slime and no feathers on its neck and most of its head. And she got this horrified look on her face. She was all like "Mom! I think we need to put it back in the shell. It's not finished yet!"

Ok. 15th day of April. I just placed 17 duck and 57 chicken eggs in the incubator. Yes that's more than my Easter hatch

FRIDAY THE 13TH

for those who are scared of that date

hmmmm wonder where you could be going on friday 13th? giggles..... not like a farm or better yet butcher shop?

Ok. Now that I've given my entry info I need help. I've never done duck eggs. Much less duck eggs with chicken eggs together. I know duck eggs need to be at around 50% humidity but temp is about the same right? Do I turn them the same? I'm laying all flat and hand turning them. I've got an extra temp/humidity gauge for double coverage so that's covered.

Sooooo.... Suggestions will be very welcome

advice. I know I should of put the duck eggs in a week before but collection rates didn't let me.

They candle the same right???
you have to watch air cells same as chickens, sometimes breeds can be hard to loose weight!!

@Sally Sunshine
Ohh! Ok cool. Good deal. Next time I will try to get you some pics for your site. I did take a video of my first chick hatching. Since it was my first ever hatch : )
Oh sweet mother of pearl; Freudian slip much? I said "...next time..." Someone pray for me...

@Chaos18 Got two hatched and snoozing happily under Mama Heating Pad. Um, I did enter this, didn't I? Got one little Cream Legbar cockerel and one Olive Egger, gender as yet unknown. Pics posted a few pages back in the thread....
I'm glad you got the ones you did too bad the legbar isn't a pullet the girls would love to see colored eggs I bet. Idk if you have EE I forget. Do you plan to keep him?
So awesome to do this with them!!!! :love She is sexy!!! Mr. SExy would have loved her!!
I didn't know you have white sport legbars. I would love to expand and get more legbars she's just so sweet! And I love the autosexing and egg color. I'd also love(my dream) to find some really bright blue layers too!

My Fibro hen sitting on her eggs that are due to hatch by the end of next week. She is a feisty girl. I managed to get one egg out from under her and candled it. The air cell is pretty big. Might be hatching before i think they will. I've lost track of time with working now.. lol.
