"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

Ok guys. Watch out for cracked eggs. I started incubating 3 days ago and there was a terrible smell today. Cracked one leaked out and stunk it up. I quickly took the eggs out and laid them on a towel then cleaned up. Smells better and eggs in the incubator again.

I did a quick candle to see if there were any more cracked and I SEE DEVELOPMENT in most!!!
Good advice! Thank you!

yeah for broodies!!!! now I'm scared though they hear the peeps come out from the one that crazy brooded, so now the others look like raptors sitting on their egg and looking at it like why won't it come out already.

Count so far is 7/24 hatched 1 died, will take camera tomorrow
Pics would be great!

1 chick hatched and another with a pip hole in the incubator!!! (only 32 more eggs to go after the 2nd one hatches LOL)
Good News! Good luck with the rest.

Quote: Go ahead, get them.

I am so excited! Tomorrow I set my SFH eggs. I got them on Friday but I am hatching by the moon dates so I have been turning them everytime I turn the eggs in the bator that were set on last Wednesday (at five in the morning to hit the timing right). That reminds me it is time to heat some water to add to the bator.
Good luck with the hatch!

Thanks for sharing.

So 28 in lockdown. 17 ameraucana, 2 EE, and 9 RIR. Should start the hatch tomorrow afternoon.

I have a hen that has been on broody on golfballs for a week. Think I can swap a few eggs for the golfballs?
Good Luck!

Grats, I don't wanna know what my count will be in 9 days for new chicks lol, Didn't think that BR first time broody would do so well, and that evil LG that gave me so much trouble last year is down to 9 days with only 7 questionable
Good luck!

Saw a zip in progress when I got home. 2 hours later it was stopped half way, no progress. Pulled (remembered hearing it should be 90 min or less) and carefully removed top. Noticed it was really sticky. Poor little ducky

Hello again everyone. Last night I candles all my eggs in my incubator and I noticed most of the air cells are at the top or less pointed part of the egg. And some aome are at the bottom is this normal. My last and first hatch they were all at the bottom or pointed end of the. Is this normal??????

No, the air cell should be at the wider, rounder, top end.

I believe they should be in the less pointy end. If you store or put eggs in a cradle in the incubator the large end should be up. Doesn't mean they won't hatch but more chance of issues if they are in a different place.

#2 hatched. a cute little yellow chick from a brown egg (from a friends farm so I am not eggzactly sure on breeds)... Only 19 more of her eggs in the incubator (1 white, a few olive, a few EE and some slightly darker brown ones in addition to the usual brown egg)... Plus 13 of my eggs (mixed mutts LOL)... Temps ran low so this hatch is running late.... :) waiting in anticipation to see pips or hear chirps from the incubator again)
