8 Roos, that's crazy! For a minute I thought you were talking about a bad dream! I'm glad you got some girls too and haf and half is to be expected. Oh roosters, it it hard to figure out what to do with them all. I can only hatch Serama roosters this year. Well, I hatched 5 Roos out of 7. My hen hatched 4/4 Roos, and the last three I hatched that are old enough to sex, all roosters! . I can't sell any chicks now because they are hopefully pullets!

The worst thing is that hatching isent over there is still more eggs to hatch
Also 2 hens hatched afew mins ago.
So only 6 eggs left
1 zipping 2 piped and 3 just sitting there

More eggs to hatch is good! I hope they are all girls for you! I have never hatched any birds that can be sexed immediately, but I guess it is good to know what you've got!

I'm so sorry about your silkies.

Do you have any idea how to tell a rooster from a pullet chick in silkies??? I've got 4 cute little fluffs. 1 blue, 1 black, 1 white and 1 red. So cute. Hope they are pullets. Maybe 1 rooster would be ok. I would like some chicks next year.

With silkies it is really really hard until 6 months. You can watch their personality, and sometimes you can tell from that. The males head fluff will scoop up and backwards just a little more. Watch for the comb. There is a sexing silkies thread where we try to guess the sexes. It is kind of fun.

Sorry to hear that, that is so disappointing! Those vaulted skulls can be huge.

I am glad your girl is laying again!

It is really frustrating, because I don't know what happened and don't want to make the same mistake again. I am so excited that she is laying again! Before she quite laying, she was laying lots of eggs with shells that you could tell were weak (lots of spots when candling) so she is up there in age, but if I can just get a few chicks, roosters or hens, I will be thrilled! She layed a very very oblong egg last night with a really long and narrow point. Hmmm.

I have 7 chicks out and 3 pips of the 19 that made it to lockdown... and one of the chicks isn't going to make it. It's neck was twisted and locked in place (though it managed to pip and zip on it's own), and once it was finally able to turn it's head around, it's head and neck were very swollen. Since it was badly saddled, I hatched it upright in an egg carton. Once it decided it wanted to come out of it's cradle, that's when things got really bad... it hadn't absorbed it's yolk. Although I've got it back in it's shell sitting in the egg carton, it doesn't look too promising. It appears to be fading fast. The other 6 look fine, and I'm really hoping the other 9 will come along soon. Tonight will suit me just fine...

It sounds like you've done what you can with that one. Congrats on the chicks and hopefully the rest will be nice and healthy too!

Mixed barnyard 25 set, 23 at lockdown, 21 hatched
Total at lockdown 38, total hatch 34

Banana! 2/3 (ain't bad!) duck eggs have veining.
Five SPR eggs look clear, but I can't really see inside them. One has a blood ring, and the other six have veining... In the shape of a banana!

Did you candle by the dash board lights?

Hope the supposed clears start developing for you.
