The Standard of Perfection official name for the color variety is Self Blue. The "fad" name is Lavender.

You had it correct the first time. The American Poultry Association calls it Self Blue, not Lavender and it has been made very clear to all breed clubs that the term Lavender will never be used. The first Self Blue was in the Old English breed. Though a couple of breed clubs have refused to apply for acceptance unless its as a Lavender, the Silkie was applied for as a Lavender and is now in the Standard as a Self Blue. the Standards Committee has made this every clear. Now if the breeds clubs will leave the fad names behind and stand with the Standard, it will be a lot less confusing on the new folks in the Fancy.

If your one hen is a Self Blue Split (carrier) and is bred to Black, all you will get is Black offspring. If 2 Self Blue carriers are bred together you can get a % of Self Blue. Sounds like yours is a Split and would produce no Self Blues with your Black male.

Wouldn't half of that hen's eggs also be self-blue carriers as well tho...and then bred back to a self-blue or split you would get the self-blue again. Correct me if I'm wrong please

Thank you all for this information as I am still learning about this breed.

Quote: self blue and lavender are the same thing... and it requires both parents to carry it to visually show it, since it is a recessive mutation. regular blue (as in BBS) on the other hand only requires one parent to show it, to pass it along. so if all your am's are black, and one is split self blue/lavender, you would have no way to tell which chicks were carriers. but if one hen is blue, then you may get some blue chicks.

actually, the name of the mutation itself was listed as lavender before the color became known as 'self blue'... thus the reference to it when discussing genetics is Lav+ (meaning normal, non-lavender)or lav (meaning the Lavender gene is present, such as Lav+/lav for a split, or lav/lav for a self blue)

and i'm aware that the APA prefers the term self blue, but using the same word. blue. to refer to two totally different mutations can get confusing for some. in Europe, the color is called lavender, among all breeds, and I believe that would lead to a lot less confusion, personally. but i'm just one voice without much sway.

so no matter what you choose to call it, self blue, or lavender, it's the same mutation regardless. but the 'breed people' get hinky if you say lavender and will most likely correct you or ignore you.

This is like the Online Crazy Egg Chain, but it is for those wanting to raise birds that are, can be shown, or have the quality to be shown.

You don't have to show to play, but you have to raise stock that can be shown or produce offspring that can be shown.

SWAP RULES - This list is subject to change so please check back periodically.

All people must be 18 or older to play.

EGGS should be from show quality stock or atleast breeder quality that could produce show qualty stock. All breeds of poultry are welcome.

NO Hatchery stock

Eggs CAN NOT be from mixed colors unless standards allow colors to be mixed

You are required to offer at least 6 eggs. You are more than welcome to offer eggs from different breeds but the total of eggs must be 6. You are more than welcome to offer more eggs.

When you accept eggs, you must post your offer. Pictures are recommended.

When each trade is posted, please pm or email the person who offered the eggs and work out the shipping arrangements.

The person sending the eggs pays the shipping costs.

When eggs are mailed, swapper needs to send a courtesy email to the swappee to let them know that the eggs are on their way.

Please offer eggs that you will have available to ship within two weeks of offering. Please send egg no older the 4 day when shipped.

If the thread stalls for 6 hours, try changing your offer if you can. If you can't and the thread is stalled for more than 24 hours, we go back to the offer that was before.

If combining different breeds, write in pencil on the eggs with the breed.

Side trades are welcome but please use PMs to avoid confusion.

If a person does not ship their eggs within one weeks of accepting offer unless other wise stated in offer you will not be able to play until all of your eggs are shipped, if you take more than two weeks. You are BANNED from the swap.

If a person does not ship their eggs in the two weeks after saying you would, they will be BANNED from this swap. I will not allow people to get eggs from other and not ship out the eggs they send they would ship.

DESCLAMER: BYC IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS SWAP. BYC is not responsible for egg sent, received or not received. Please do not pm the mod about your eggs. PM me. If you do not receive your eggs I can not make them send them but will make sure they do not play anymore. Please remember since theses are shipping eggs, they do not have guarantee on hatch rate due to shipping and/or incubation methods.
I guess we go back to the offer before me as that was all I had to offer. I know it has stalled for more than 24 hours. sorry Everyone. this was my first attempt. Maybe another time then.
