Squatting and such

Its not a silly question. When they squat they bend their knees so they are a little shorter and they slightly push out their wings. Not fully extended straight, but at more of a right angle. Mine started doing it right before they began laying, and they do it in the morning before we go to get the eggs, almost they are curtseying to accept the thanks for the egg. LOL.It can be pretty subtle, and they often only do it for a few seconds. When you pick them up they stay very still.

We had a Barred Rock we named Lolita after the title character in the Vladimir Nabokov novel. As a young pullet approaching point of lay she would squat so fast and hard she made a thump as she went down on her hocks. Sometimes it isn't subtle at all.

Well as of now Eagle is pretty subtle, maybe she'll get more affectionate later XD

I have another question, have you ever had a pullet that is annoyed of the squatting? I do it to my girl and she hates it. She squirms out of my hand when I touch her back. Any of you have this?

Mine will sometimes squat, but as soon as reach for her she runs off. It just depends on the mood she is in. Maybe they know from intimidation that you are boss but she isn't ready for you to be close like that? Not really sure.

Well my other sweetie, Ginger, laid her first egg today, and she started squatting three days ago! I'm so excited!
