Squatting?

All of my hens squat to me when I approach them. Does that mean they're all "special needs"?

- No! This girl, I'm not sure what her problem is.....I wonder if she has trouble seeing because of her muffs, but she moves very cautiously, looks at things very carefully (almost like she can't see very well), she roosts on the floor most of the time, doesn't lay - the list goes on.... I keep her because of her personality, I like her. I thought she was molting when I bought her, but now I just don't know

I've treated her for worms and lice (she's very light weight, the wind blows her around) - So, I jokingly and lovingly call her my "special needs" chicken! I always feed her treats by hand to make sure she gets some.....

Thank you for posting this thread! I am new to chickens and I have been wondering what this squatting business is as well. Looks like I know which of my girls are going to be leaving me eggs soon! Thanks again. And happy egg hunting

HAHAHA.... I do the same back scraching thing to my gals... all but one will squat for me, Rachel, my EE, is a nervous gal and doesnt like to be touched...

If I stopped and scratched everytime they squatted, I would never get anything done... I will usually walk by and say, "not now, I have a headache"..... <chuckle>
