Squirrels and pellet guns

It depends a LOT on the particular gun.

Many BB guns don't have the power to penetrate much of any thing, and it's the same with some of the pellet rifles.

When you get into the more high powered guns, they DO have the capability of killing small game with a well placed shot

You can kill with a pellet gun, because of a very picky guy living next door to us we can no longer shoot our shotgun to kill the squirrels, so we use the pellet gun, once sighted in kills very good, no problem with my chickens,, but they love my house. Good luck.

I haved used my gamo big cat 1200 fps pellet gun to hunt squirells. A head shot will kill them instantly, a double lung shot will have them running but they will die. They are tough.

I also use my pellet gut to dispatch raccoons that I catch in live traps. It is very powerful pellet gun.

I would not use a BB gun.

the gamo whisper line of pellet guns are very quiet and lethal...they have over 1000fps with pellets and will take out a lot of animals..even foxes and racoons. You can get them online or bigger sports stores. Whatever you get make sure that it has at least 1000fps no less. Academy sports has a great line of air guns. bass pro and gander mountain also is good but a little pricey.

A Red Ryder is a great fun plinking gun. But not good for killing much larger than a grasshopper.

Your smaller, "youth" pellet guns, like my Gamo Delta, is good for rats, pest birds (takes careful shot placement on a crow) etc but not quite powerful enough for good kills on squirrels.

A standard adult pellet gun, like the Gamo Whisper (it's a Gamo Big Cat with a silencer, cool) will do just fine on squirrels if you do your part. I recommend Pyramyd Air to buy these from, and I highly recommend the Pyramyd Air Report blog, by B.B. Pelletier, for reading on all things pellet (and BB).
