I have a hen about 2 months old that her breast is two to three time the size it should be. It doesn't seem to bother her. It is squishy, almost a if it is just a fluid pocket. Any ideas as to what it is and how I can treat it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have a buff brahma that had a soft squishy spot about the size of a quarter between her legs (looked like she had a loaded diaper) that the feed store gave me. It did get bigger as she grew but it did finally go away by the time she was about 3 months. Don't know what it was and she hasn't started laying so I don't know if she's a dud because of it. I'm interested in knowing what it was as well.

I noticed it a couple weeks ago but it wasn't any where as close to as big as it is now. I thought it was her feed sack and haven't thought anything of it since until yesterday. It looks like she has a double breast. It is concerning.

Well today we opted to put the hen down. We decided it was not worth feeding her if we were not sure what was wrong with her. We were not sure if what she had would inhibit her egg laying ability or if we should take a chance on eating the meat. What we discovered was that what was going in was not coming out and her crop was getting bigger and bigger. After that discovery, we do not believe she would have made it much longer before her crop reached its limit and she would have passed away.
