I am so sorry to hear another peep is down. I wish there was something I could offer. There is not. Sebrights are particularly susceptible to Marek's. Even my vaccinated one succumbed. (I am assuming that they actually ARE vaccinated when you order them.) I have just done our first vaccination of home grown incubator banty chicks with my friend. We will see if it goes well with them. My best to you. My "hospital" birds always ate well inside in the "ward", a chair in the living room with us. It was only their last day they did not eat well. But I would guess it depends on where tumors grow that dictates their appetites. Mine got a lot of "canned corn" and thawed freezer peas and other goodies. I wish you the best!!

Thanks MyPetPeeps.
I wish I had known more about this disease, I would have kept the sebrights in isolation longer. Not that it would have made a difference. Mareks is everywhere from what I have read. I only hope the other ones don't develop it. We knew Sebrights were particularly suseptible (sp?) to Mareks and delicate to begin with. Out of an order of 10 with one bonus chick, only 5 survived the first 2 days of life so I can only hope that these 5 survivors can beat the odds.
Thank you again for your well wishes.

So sadly to announce that I had to put Ricky down today. He had been doing so well and perhaps I should not have taken him off the herb, but thought I'd see how he would do and today when we moved the small birds out into a summer house one of our older chicks stepped on his back and he cried out in pain, so with what ever that did, I just simply and sadly put him down.

I had such hope, or wish. Dang it, such a heart breaking disease. Now, I usually start something and I certainly do not want to as I say this... I have been told to breed for resistance as our birds have the Mareks that is spread by migrating birds and to inoculate can be sending a different strain(s) because they are the designed for the birds in the poultry industry. So, just as a thought, I'm going to place my new chicks in with my broilers and turkeys, they come in tomorrow and have not been inoculated. The turkeys have a virus that prevents Mareks.

Just an experiment and will definitely keep you all posted and if someone else could try this, I'd love to hear about it! Here is a picture of Ricky while on the Herb.

Ricky the rooster passed away a few weeks after the above photo. Sadly he did well and took a turn for the worst. This latest batch of chicks are 8 weeks old and I placed them in with turkey poults that were the same age. Apparently turkeys carry a virus that "cancels" out the Marek's disease (from what I read), so I'm trying that one at this point.

There is a lot of awesome information on this link, thank you goes out to those that brought us to this point!

My dream was that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between her and the other RIR's I have because she'd be walking normally again. Well, my wish has come true. She is totally healthy and the only way I can tell it's her is because she's a bit smaller than the others having gone through what she did.

Last week I noticed one of my New Hampshire Reds starting to limp. I waited a couple of days to see if she had injured it and perhaps it might go away. The limp was still there and getting worse. I captured her and gave her a dropper full of colloidal silver and within two days, she is no longer limping.

My 9 week old hen has all the symptoms of Marek's Disease. I followed your advice and went to the health food store (s). I came up with capsules, with the strenght of 450. How can I administer this. Later I went to another store and found tablets, with the strenght of 300. I believe the capsules have a powdered substance in them. I am going to make her a sling in her separated cage, she is so uncomfortable. I will try this and hope for the best. I cannot kill her under any circumstance, but if necessary, a trip to the vets will have to do. I hope it doesn't come to that. Wish me/her luck.

There is also a liquid form of Hypericum, in a dropper bottle. How can this be used? By the way, I put the tablet in a tablespoon of distilled water in a small glass custard cup, and that was an hour ago, and its still as hard as a rock, only got slimy. I have spent about $30 on the two items (the capsules are 300 mg), and I still am not sure if I have it right. I used the capsule, and the water turned dark green, is that whats suppose to happen. I gave some to my little hen, hope I didn't do something wrong.
