St. Patty's Day Green Egg Hatchalong, Set 2/25

Redriver is right about internal pips. Of course, you can't see one without candling. But at this point you don't want to take them out of the incubator. The most obvious sign a chick has internally pipped is chirping coming from inside the egg. From internal pip to external pip can take several hours, or even a day or 2.

Here are a few of the chicks all dry and fluffy! I have 10 hatched, 3 pipped out of 22 eggs.

Cotton, how cool you can do that! I've yet to have a broody hen, but they are so cute caring for the babies.

My hatch has slowed way down. Out of 22 eggs, I have 12 hatched and 2 pips. It's almost the end of day 21. I thought I'd have more pips by now.

I've actually never tried putting chicks under a broody like this before, so fingers crossed it works! If you ever have a broody, I highly recommend letting her raise some babies, it is so much fun to watch them. This is the third time I've done it. :)

Day 21 just ended for me. 40 eggs went into lockdown.

Tally so far...

26 hatched
4 pipped and chirping
8 not pipped and not chirping :(
1 almost hatched (long story)
1 died after pipping through a blood vessel

Pretty good so far!

So I didn't set green eggs, but my batch is pipping now. Well, three of thirty! I have blr wyandotte, French BBS copper marans, and blue Breda!!! So excited for the Breda. Can't wait to see the fuzzballs!
