I am bummed, I only had 19 chicks hatch and most of them were not out of green eggs. My biggest disappointment is that they are almost all white or shades of white. I have two chicks that show barred rock markings but the others are nondescript. They may change as they grow, I hope. I had no idea that a rooster made such a difference in the color of the chicks. I thought the roosters coloring would show up in the color of the eggs. I was wanting some colorful chicks. Oh well, live and learn. It was neat to hatch a barnyard mix.

I only had 6 green eggs hatch and only one has stripes on it. Many of the chicks have black dots on them. One is a strange color of white... anyway it is interesting. BTW, my green egg chicks came from a black and white hen and a light to medium colored hen. I guess that is why they are void of color.

White is an interesting color in chicken genetics. Most white chickens are carrying dominant white. Hatching eggs from a dominant white roo or hen will always produce chicks in shades of white, no matter what color the other chicken is. Dominant white isn't very good at covering up certain colors though, so the chickens will most likely feather out with some red or black color leakage, hence all your different shades of white. Recessive white is far less common, but better at masking other colors, creating a pure white chicken.
Your chicks sure are cute! They look like little clouds.
I have 5 eggs left in the bator. One of them has pipped. This is one of the longest hatches I've ever had. I need to clean out the bator. I have more eggs coming this week!
has anyone ever herd tapping when putting and egg up to thier ear?
