Staffordshire Bull Terrier pros and cons.

Awwwwww! Reminds me of my Cinnamon girl.
:love

From my experience Staffordshire really want to be with their humans.
They love to please their people. Training needs to be consistent...everyone using the same words for things and all that.

I love that mushy face. :p

Right now I have a blue pity/husky mix. She is the sweetest most gentle dog.
I had an American Staffordshire, a Staffordshire mix and another American Staffordshire mix over the years. I am definitely fond of them.

Oh dear. I guess though maybe from this age we have a bit of a chance to train her though?
Oh yea. I mean I had my dog when she was 2 years old and I didn't have to train her around the birds. It could just be a personality thing. As of right now I would say make sure the dog is around them all the time. It might even be better when the birds are bigger than her because if she oversteps they will peck her and put her in her place. Then when she gets bigger she will know not to really mess with them.
If she is already bigger than them, then you should definitely be sure to keep her in her place when she gets too excited over them. What you want is for her to be disinterested in them. Especially with terriers if they get excited and try to play they can accidentally kill them since they are a pretty good size dog. A good way for them to be disinterested if they are used to them and bored by them.

Personally, I think I would nix the outside dog idea. These dogs like to be near their people. They are also strong willed and determined. Training and socialization are a must. That and lots of exercise.

That's an interesting thought. Almost all dogs I have been in contact with seemed to love being outside. Totally agree with training, socializing, and exercise but if you try and stay around your dog all the time then it could still develop separation anxiety. That's why I think it's important for teach dogs how to behave when they are by themselves

When I suggested nixing the outdoor dog idea, I did not mean that the dog had to be with you all the time or that it shouldn't have play time outside. By outdoor dog, I meant one that stays outside all the time, is not allowed in the house, and only interacts with its people when they go outside.

And that would be a crappy life for any dog. :(

Too many "outdoor dogs" are tied up to a box or barrel and pretty much ignored and isolated except for having food tossed out to them once or twice a day if someone happens to think to do it. Their owners think this makes them good guard dogs. That's what I meant by a crappy life. I'm glad to hear this is not the fate of your dog!
