How very sweet. I'm simply stunned of how his simple life impacted people. Although he was only a hatchery grade JG, I hope he will remind poultry people to preserve those rare breeds. While he may have never placed in a show pen, he was a winner in my backyard.
Noooo!!!!! Not Stan!!! No more 'What is this chicken thinking' pictures of his manly Stan-y face!!! With of course his wattles the size of Russia. I'm so sorry.
I am so sorry to hear that a predator got Stan. He was a great rooster. I know it's not too late, but have you thought of gathering some of hen's eggs and maybe either you or one of his many fans hatching some of his chicks, so that maybe a son of his could take over ?
Thanks for the kind thoughts. My one and only attempt to hatch eggs (for a family member) resulted in no fertile eggs. However, this spring, I will purchase an unrelated rooster from a private breeder. While I have no intention of breeding chickens at this time, I do enjoy watching the antics of a nice rooster.
