Hello! I am here with another sick chicken :/

My flock did/does have coryza, but there have been 0 outbreaks since the first few birds.

I found a little chick (really chicken, 3 months old maybe?) limp and not walking during 104-degree weather. I brought him in, gave him electrolytes, and kept him inside. I bring him outside to eat and peck for worms each morning (only been 2 days.) and he enjoys it. I found him slightly tilting his head, but it's gotten worse. He keeps it straight to eat (I have been feeding dry kitten food floating in electrolytes) but then it tilts right back.

Edit to add: I always find him with his head tucked into his wings, like when they are cold!

Is this the beginning of wry neck? How can I help him? I feel so bad :(

I can get a picture of him when I take him outside in the morning :)

Thanks!

Do you have photos of him and his poop?

I'd feed Chick Starter, not kitten food.

Wry Neck, Star Gazing, Crook Neck - these are names or terms to describe a neurological symptom. Some common causes of this symptom are Marek's Disease, Trauma (head/neck), genetics and/or sometimes nutritional deficiency.

Standard treatment for Wry Neck/Star Gazing is to give 400IU Vitamin E and 1/4 tablet B-Complex daily along with a bit of Egg for the uptake of E.

He has been on chick feed, but I gave him some kitten food when I brought him inside (for more protein; they all get some every now and then) but I will definitely feed him chick feed from now on.

I ordered vitamin E and it should arrive tmrw. I think I have b-complex, I will look!

Thanks!

My b-complex comes in capsules....do you know how many milligrams?

When dealing with a capsule and I only want a portion of it, I mix the contents of 1 capsule into 1 teaspoon coconut oil.

Now you can divide that teaspoon into 4 equal portions, roll them up a little like a "pill", then stick in the freezer. You have 4 doses now.

Make sense?

It won't hurt if you give a little more/less on the B-Complex, B vitamins are water soluble, so any "excess'' that are not needed, it gets excreted in the urine/poop.

Give the vitamin E and B complex once a day orally. E comes in soft gels and you can empty those into food or have them swallow it. Egg (just a little of yolk and white mixed) for selenium. Can you post the picture on your thread, since I can’t sign in to your Google acct?
