Star gazing.

I live on 25 acres of farm next to 1.6M acres of state/federal forest-reserve land. I've built no fewer than 14 telescopes so far. I have three scopes and an observatory that I built,on the edge of my land, next to the federal lands. If you don't have a telescope, try a par of $75 binoculars.
What's really neat is seeing the glow of the Milky Way as it weaves its way across the stars and you come to realize that you're looking at the "razor's edge" view of our own galaxy. How insignificant we humans really are compared to the whole scheme of Universe!

Well, we live in an area where we can see stars at night, except right now, when the chicken coop is lit up by 3,000 CHRISTMAS LIGHTS ! ! ! (I'm going to have to start giving eggs away to the neighbors in case they are stargazers like you guys!)

I can see the stars just perfect...for now. But since for some reason people think NC isn't crowded enough and they're all moving here it's going to be bye bye stars real soon. And bye bye water. They estimate that we'll get something like 4 million more people in the next 4 years moving here. LOL to bad they won't have any water to drink.

Funny, I was going to post today asking if there were any astronomers here. We live in a beautiful valley in the mountains. The milky way goes right over our backyard!Hardly any of our neighbors have lights on at night. We have so many stars it makes you dizzy. Once a month we take a ten minute drive up the mountain behind our house to join with sometimes hundreds of city folk for a star party. You city folk should check with the local astronomy clubs to find out about their star parties. Anyone is welcome and you can go around and look through peoples telescopes/binoculars and also learn a lot about the stars.

carugoman- We have and old small telescope we don't use any more. We use our celestron nextar8I. Do you have pics of your observatory? In a few years we are getting a bigger telescope and want to build an observatory. DH has been on line checking things out. He has decided to build one that has the roll off roof and seperate computer room. Right now though we are wanting to start getting into astrophotography.
