I got 2 eggs from my "baby flock" today. I know the brown egg is from my Calico Princess as she's been laying for a few weeks now but this is my first colored egg. I have a Starlight Green Egger and 2 Easter Eggers (that might lay colored eggs) and I've been waiting patiently for my SGE to lay since her comb and wattles have really grown and reddened, plus she's been very chatty. I wasn't expecting her eggs to be this color though (I know we don't always get what we expect, especially with Hatchery stock). I was expecting a lightly tinted green (like a white egg with a hint of green). Does anyone have a SGE that is laying and if so, are you getting a deep shade or a more muted light green. Both of my Easter Eggers have comb growth and reddening, but it's happened much more recently. The EE that is the queen of this flock seems a bit more strict with the SGE today. I haven't ever been successful with doing butt checks to get an idea of pelvic spacing but I'm going to attempt it again. If you notice the brown egg has dark speckles, so I guess there is a possibility that I have more than 2 layers, especially with the daylight hours. Don't some EE lay brown eggs? I keep thinking about how everyone says their Calico Princess lays cream eggs but I've been getting some darker brown eggs. Maybe everyone, including the Midnight Majesty Marans (a marans mix from Hoover's - should lay a dark brown egg) is beginning to lay. Then again, the girls in this flock are 21 weeks and 22 weeks old, so maybe not. Only one of the pullets, the SGE, squats, but she LOVES human interaction more than any chicken I've ever known. Any thoughts?

I feel like it might be helpful to note that the brown eggs of various shade and with or without brown speckles are ALWAYS laid before first light. 9 times out of 10, the egg is cold in the nest box when I let them out at first light. It wasn't there when I check before going to bed around 11pm/12, before. The green egg was laid this morning after sunrise

I've never had a Starlight Green Egger, so I'm not sure what their eggs look like. :idunno
But I do get eggs that color from my Easter Eggers :)
Thank you for replying! If this is "Amelia Bedila's" or "Junie B. Jones" (top of the pecking order) egg, that would certainly explain some of the more assertive behavior to my gentle and sweet SGE, right? The Calico Princess that I know is laying is not as nice to the lower nonlaying pullets as before she started to lay. Either way, I am thrilled to have at least one colored egg layer

2x @chrissynemetz When I had EEs they laid that shade of "green". I find squatting gets more pronounced as they start laying. My "chatty" girl was the last to lay. To do the pelvic check, look for the vent & feel right below it. I've got Whitings (McMurray), they are now all laying however the one WTB pelvic is so very narrow her eggs are too.

Chuckles at all the 'designer chicken' monikers.
They are all basically Easter Eggers or Olive Eggers('guaranteed' blue shell gene).
Shades of green can vary greatly depending on parents genetics and line.

Check pelvic points when any new pullet egg is deposited, can really help narrow down

But you still might have to stalk the nests and 'catch them in the act' to be absolutely sure who is laying what.

The color/shade is different so I'm guessing these are from two separate pullets. Obviously the one from today is from the Starlight Green Egger and the egg from yesterday probably came from an Easter Egger. What do you think? Same pullet or two different pullets?

Edited to add that this is a side by side of the green egg from yesterday and the green egg from today
