My chickens chase off other brids. Not just the roosters either the hens too. They even chase them out of the yard when they free range. I can't imangine having to deal with a coop full of birds that aren't my chickens. Good luck.

Good for you guys! I have mostly house sparrows that I trap, but I have seen the starlings. I only wish there was a way to feed them to the hawk so it leaves my hens alone. Something eats them.

Good job.

Actually your post made my day. I am reminded how lucky I am to be out of a previous relationship. She refused to let me shoot Starlings. I tried to tell her how bad they were but she thought they were wonderful. That's just one more issue I won't have to put up with now.

I hate starlings, they get into everything's food! And crap in the feed dishes. We used to set traps for them and Snowball, my JRT would tear them up! She loves to catch birds and kill them, she leaves my chickens alone but tweety birds? Heck, that's pure doggie entertainment right there!

No way this can help this year, but could be that some cloth strips hanging over the pop door openings would deter them in future?

Might have to educate the chooks, but that should only take minutes if you go inside and let them know you have treats.

I don't think that would help deter them.

A few years back I had a make shift little coop set up for about 10 young birds. It had some small gaps so I wrapped it with a big tarp to keep the wind and the birds out. Well, those darned starlings figured out how to crawl under and up the tarp into the little coop, it was unbelievable, they're rats with wings I tell you!

Here the problem is sparrows, finches and small doves.

Only the sparrows are brave enough to go into the coop, but the chickens chase them out real quick.

But, I do wish I could get rid of all of them. I'm afraid they'll bring disease to my birds.
