The ship that held Ruth followed Hugh's signal. The rukes noticed the ship and started firing on it once they were away from the planet. The battle went on until Hugh's ship was damaged . They started to be pulled into a planet's gravity. Ruth was put in the escape pod, but it wouldn't release. The ship crashed onto the planet and was found by Raiders. There was only one survivor found in the wreckage, Ruth. She was claimed by Nicholas and brought to his home to be raised until she was old enough to be sold to the rukes.
Zena returned that evening with her friends father, Garret, because she had forgotten something. Zena stared at what was left of her home and tried to run towards it. Garret grabbed her and kept her from going any closer, forcing her to go back to his house so that he could call it in. Zena collapsed once they were in her friends house. She believed her family was dead. Later she found out that her brother and sister were both missing, and that her parents were dead. She was sent to her only living relative, Kyle, and his family.
One year later...
Zena moved around the cafe, taking orders and delivering food to the customers. Tori entered the cafe, listening to the jingling bell on the door. She moved quickly toward a table near a window. Zena approached her "Hello, I am Zena, your waitress today" She said handing her a menu. "Thank you," Tori said. "Tea for me, please." Zena nodded and made a note "I'll give you a moment to look over the menu" She said and went to get the tea. Tori thanked Zena and perused the menu, settling on salad. Zena returned with the tea "Have you decided or do you need another minute?" She asked. "Just another minute," Tori said, accepting the tea with a 'thank you'. Zena nodded and left her to check on the other customers before returning to Tori's table "I'd like a bowl of miso soup," Tori said. "Will that be all?" Zena asked and wrote it down. "Yes, thanks," said Tori. She hadn't much of an appetite today. Zena nodded and went tot he window to place the order with the cook. When it was ready she brought it to the table, setting it down in front of Tori along with a spoon wrapped in a napkin. "Do you need anything else?" She asked, kindly. Tori shook her head. "Thanks," she said. She stirred the steaming soup then took a sip, savoring the flavor. Gazing out the window, she watched the passers-by, looking for that special someone. So far, she hadn't found him. Tori ate slowly, only once dropping the spoon, where it clattered loudly on the table. Zena walked over "Enjoying your meal? Is there anything else I can get for you?" She asked kindly
"It's good. Thanks," said Tori. Zena nodded and moved off again. There weren't many other patrons left in the cafe. Tori had placed the credits on the table, including Zena's tip, but she hadn't moved. She had nowhere else to go, so she lingered. Zena came by and cleared the table "Want a refill?" She asked
"Thanks," said Tori with a nod. Maybe if she lingered long enough, Zena could converse with her or tell her 'we're closing. get out'. Zena brought the pitcher of tea to refill the glass. "Waiting for someone in particular?" She asked conversationally. "Not really," Tori said. She forced a smile. "Waiting for Mr. Right, but you know how that can go." Zena nodded "Yeah, he's a hard one to find. Waiting for him myself" She smiled gently. "I'd probably settle for Mr. Meh, You'll Do," said Tori. She looked at Zena. "Don't let me get you in trouble." Zena smiled "No trouble, I am done for the day if you are finished?"
"I'm finished." Tori downed the last of her cup and moved away from the table. "I'm Tori." Zena smiled "Give me a sec" She said and went to the back to remove the apron and grab her bag. She came out and back to Tori "Alright, your new around here, right?" She asked. Tori nodded. "I guess it's obvious." She headed for the door. "I've been here a few months. I've just been hiding sorta."
Zena followed Tori out the door "First time I have seen you in the cafe." She replied. "First time I've ever been in here," Tori admitted. She paused to glance about, remembering where she was going, and asked, "Take a walk with me?"
"Sure" Zena said "I don't have any plans for today" Tori looked at Zena. "I never seem to have any plans. Know any place of interest?" Zena smiled but shook her head "I've only been here a couple of months myself. The cafe's owner is my uncle, which is why I have a job there." She looked around and shrugged "We can explore the city together, if you want." "Alright, let's do that," said Tori. She picked a random direction and started walking, having no clue where she was going. Zena walked beside Tori, looking around. Tori glanced at rows of buildings, none of which held her interest for long. Zena looked down the street "There's the shopping district" Tori followed Zena's gaze. "Why not? I could use another tunic." Her current one had seen better days.
Zena grinned and walked to the stores, looking for a clothing store "Here we are" She said stopping in front of one. Tori followed Zena. She peered in the window at the assortment of clothing. "I'm sure they have what I need in there."
Zena opened the door and held it for Tori "They seem to have a bit of everything in there" "Thanks," Tori said. "Yes, they do."
Tori breathed in the scent of new fabrics and heavy dyes. Zena followed her new friend inside, looking around at the different clothes offered in this store.
Tori selected a light tan/cream tunic and held it up to her chest. Neutral colors attracted her the most. She turned to face Zena. "How do I look?" "Good" Zena replied after looking over to her. She held up a couple of other choices, one a light blue, the other a rich brown "Like either of these? For you" "I like them both. Sadly, I didn't lose a rich relative and inherit a huge sum of money," Tori said. "I'll go with the brown. Might look better against my light coat." Zena put the blue one back and brought the brown tunic to Tori "You have to try them on" She said indicating the changing rooms."I will. Thanks," Tori said. She accepted the tunic and disappeared into the fitting room. It'd been a few years since she'd tried on new clothes. Hopefully, her size hadn't changed. Well, if I've worn the same tunic for years, I don't guess I have, she thought as she pulled off her old ratty one. Zena browsed for a tunic for herself as Tori tried her choices on. She found one in a dark blue that she really liked and went to try it on
Tori stood in front of a full-length mirror. The new tunic was snugger fitting than her old one, showing curves Tori had forgot she had. "I like it," she said and went about changing back into her old tunic for now. Zena looked in her mirror, she liked the tunic so much, she decided to wear it out. Tori emerged from the fitting room, rummaging through what would pass, barely, as a handbag. Replacing the rest of her belongings would have to wait until she had a job. She looked up at Zena. "Looks good." "Thanks" Zena said "You like yours?" She asked, turning to pay for hers. Tori finished counting out currency and paid for hers. "Yes," she said, turning to Zena. "I do. Thanks." Zena smiled and put her original shirt in a bag to carry it "Want to wander around some more, or head home?" Tori scratched her head absently. "Actually, I need to see about finding a job. Know of anywhere?" "One of the ladies at the cafe is retirering" Zena offered. "That might work, though I don't have much in the way of experience." Tori shrugged. "Homeless and all that. I live in a washed-out bank underneath a giant tree." "That won't do at all" Zena said "Follow me, we'll go to my place" she said and set off for home.
A male stud followed them in the shadows....
"Well, if you're sure. I mean, I am a stranger you just met," Tori said. She followed Zena without pausing to think further. "I know, but I have a feeling we could be great friends" Zena said as they left the shopping area, heading to the cafe. "I'd like that," Tori said. It felt different to be traveling with a companion after so long. Zena smiled and led Tori to the back door of the cafe "Me too" She said as she went upstairs. Tori followed Zena inside but lingered downstairs. "You live above the cafe?" "Yeah, my uncle has rooms up here" Zena said, stopping and looking back. She smiled "Never late for work, when you live here." She said jokingly. "I guess you wouldn't be," Tori said, finally following Zena upstairs. "Does he rent them out? Not, not that I can afford one."
"He lets me stay free, and we can probably work something out for you. Here" She opened one of the four doors "This one isn't used, yet" There was a living room area with double doors opened to the bedroom. She entered to show it off "Each one of the rooms up here has it's own mini kitchen, living area, bedroom and bathroom, and of course closet" She pointed each out, "Mine's next door on this side, and uncle's is across from mine, with their son being across from you. He's taken or I would suggest him for you to meet."
"You almost had me excited about that. No matter. I haven't met a stallion in my life. I don't know why I suddenly want to now," Tori said. She did her absentminded head scratch then looked about the room. "This is lovely, though. Compared to living in an embankment with tree roots for decor, it's a palace. Thanks," Tori said. She dropped her bag in a chair and disappeared into the bathroom with her new tunic. A shower and washing of clothes was in order.
Zena came back up after about an hour, she had gotten pulled into helping through a rush and was finally able to pull her uncle aside to speak to him after it slowed down again. She knocked on Tori's door and waited
Tori opened the door on the first knock, having been walking by at the same moment Zena knocked. Zena grinned "You have the job and the room. We should go celebrate."
"Oh, that's great! And to think, I wasn't going to bother coming into town today," Tori said, nearly ecstatic from the news. "We'll celebrate a new friendship, too."
Zena smiled and turned to go downstairs again "I know the perfect place, come on." She looked back "One of the few places I do know in this city"
Tori closed the door behind her then followed. "I'm glad you know some of it. I don't. I haven't come to town a lot."
"I don't know as much as I would like to" Zena replied and went out the back door of the cafe."It's still more'n I know," Tori said. She was careful to close this door, too. "Which way?" "Left" Zena answered and set off for the club.
The stallion followed, waiting for them to be in a lone ally...
Tori walked alongside her new friend. "I hope it's not an expensive place."
"No, it's not" Zena answered "Just hard to find" She said, turning down an alley
Tori followed her, noting how the darker alley reminded her of her underground 'home'. "I was lost when I found it and just know the one way to get there" Zena said appologetically. "Doesn't bother me. My place is gloomier than this," Tori said, shrugging. Zena nodded as they neared the other side of the alley "Left, then right and we will be there" the next alley was darker, but the last had more lights.
The stud stopped them once they entered, "Hello ladies." He smirked.
Zena stopped, trying to see him in the dim light "Um, hello" she said, inching away from him. Tori could see him clearly, adept at seeing in the darkness. "What do you want, fella?" "lovely lovely.." He mumbled, looking them over. He was strongly built, rukish in fact...
Zena stopped again as she realized what he was "He's a ruke" she said and reached for Tori's arm. "Ah ah ah!" HE snagged their arms, a tag attaching to them. Zena tried to pull her arm back. Tori stared at the tag while trying to pull away. "He's a what?"This is what she got for living a life of isolation in the wilderness. He held them in a powerful grip.
"A ruke" Zena said "Rukes are the ones who destroyed my family and made me have to come here." She glared at him since she couldn't free her arm.
They all teleported to his ship, "Now, behave and I won't have to deck you."
Zena looked around and moved closer to Tori, frightened. He smirked and slowly let go, "Might keep one of you for myself.." he muttered to himself.
"Let us go," Tori said pointedly. "Not happening honey." he smirked, heading to leave the room he ported them to. Zena took her arm back, wondering what was going to happen now. He left the room, a force field keeping them in as he got the ship out of the system. "Keep one of us for yourself? I can't tell you how happy that makes me feel," Tori said sarcastically. Zena turned to Tori "We got captured by a ruke" she said disbelievingly. She shook her head "Uncle will not like this"
"You better learn to curb that tongue quick." he retorted from the cockpit.
"Sorry. Don't have that knack," Tori spat at him. She looked at Zena. "Why would he care about me?" He rolled his eyes. "They capture pretty much any mare they can, from what father told me" Zena said. Tori looked at the force field then back at Zena. "So what happens to us now?" "I don't know, father always stopped speaking about them after he said who was captured and where they were from" Zena replied "I wasn't supposed to hear that much"
"You'll become wives to some ruke." He answered. Zena shook her head "What if we say 'no'" "To bad so sad, can't say no." He grinned as he spoke
Zena shook her head and looked at Tori. "There is clothing in the closet there... try some on." He smirked.
Zena shook her head again, looking around as though an exit would appear
Tori looked like a carved statue; she didn't move. "I like what I'm wearing. Thanks." "Fine." He snorted. Zena bit her lip as she studied her surroundings
Tori was still doing her impression of a statue, but she looked around, trying to find a means of escape. But there was none, they were on their way to the black market to be sold.
Zena shivered and looked to Tori "I'm sorry" She said softly. "It's fine," Tori said. "I'm glad I met you. Even being here is a switch from living in a hole in the ground." He brought them some food.
Zena shied away, every story she had overheard running through her mind
He smirked and place the plates down. "You two are going to be easy to break for who every buys you." Tori glared at him, if her eyes could burn, he'd have twin holes in his face. "We'll see who ends up broke." He rolled his eyes, "eat up, need you healthy."Zena stayed back, too scared to move. He rolled his eyes and left the room. Zena sighed and looked to Tori "Now what?" She asked softly
"I guess we wait," Tori said. She eyed the food. Zena lay down to wait, ignoring the food.
After a few hours they docked.
A ship has been stalking them since nearly the beginning
Zena stood when they docked and he came in, torks in his hand.
Zena shook her head "No" Tori wasn't agreeable, either. "Shut up." He remarked, putting the band on her neck. "No" She said rearing, and trying to get it off
A painful shock course through her body, the more she fought it the worse it got, he put the same thing on the other mare. Tori moved aside, turning to keep their kidnapper in sight. Zena stopped, tears in her eyes as she stared at him
Tori, for now, kept her big mouth shut and avoided electric shock. "Good." He smirked, chains appeared from those torks and were in his hand, "come on."
Zena shook her head but followed, not wanting to get shocked again.
Tori's response was to plant her hooves then end-up dragged along anyway.
He yanked them to follow faster as they headed onto the black market station.
Zena's hands trembled as she looked around the station. You don't have to jerk, you jerk. I'm coming," Tori grumbled. He went to talk to the slave master there.
A big Achlys, Krystal, halted the stallions path. The stallion snorted and glared "Yes?" The slave master had this annoyed look as the Achlys stood between him and the stud. She plucked out two guns and aimed at their heads swiftly, "Let them go. " she scowled.
All of a sudden guards seem to appear, mostly sati and their guns were pointed at her, "Put the weapon down." the slave master smirked. Zena's eyes widened at all the guards. She stepped closer to Tori, watching the activity.
Krystal fired a waves of electricity at the guards.
They yelped in pain, shooters from up high appeared. One shoot a dart to her.
Tori pressed herself against Zena, trying to eye everything at once. She ducked and dodged the bullet. She threw tags on the mares to try and teleport them out.
Zena watched them, then looked to the tag. "What? Another one?" Tori stared at the tag. It failed, a few more fired at her. the stud reared, trying to knock her out.
Zena pulled back on her chain when the tag failed to work. She stopped again when she was shocked by the torque. Zena watched them, then looked to the tag
"What? Another one?" Tori stared at the tag.
It failed, a few more fired at her. the stud rared, trying to knock her out.
Zena pulled back on her chain when the tag failed to work. She stopped again when she was shocked by the torque.
Krystal got hit a few times, but did feel the kick. Causing her to collapse.
Tori was back to doing her statue-routine. Not moving and not speaking seemed to mean not being shocked. The slaver snorted and had her tagged, the next time she would wake she would be in a cell with the two mares and another being. He turned tot he slaver and finished his business, sending Zena and Tori to a cell to wait to be actioned off.
Zena looked around the cell, watching the others quietly. The humanoid stared at them, he was male, with pale while skin, and grey hair. His eyes were grey, with dark grey pupils. Zena kept glancing to him. While she knew there were others, her life on the ranch, and even her time in the cafe had not given her much of a chance to see other species. "Hello" She said softly, trying to be friendly.
"Hello." He had a deep, enchanting voice. "I'm Zena, this is my friend Tori" she said and glanced around the cell again.
"Charon." He answered. Zena smiled gently "It's nice to meet you, even under the circumstances" She said then sighed and looked away "Uncle is probably worried sick by now, wondering where we are." she said mostly to herself
"Indeed." He sighed.
Zena looked to him again with a sad smile, then lay down and looked around "What happens now?" she asked looking to the one who had tried to rescue them, the back to him. "You two will most likely be sold to rukes and be forced to be their wives, me I dunno." Zena winced at the thought "I don't want to marry a ruke" she said and stood, pacing along the walls of the cell. "no choice on this." Charon answered. "There's always a choice" She stopped, wrapping her arms around herself. "That's what father would always say"
"Sadly that is not true." Charon said. Zena shook her head and looked around again. "There doesn't seem to be another choice." She agreed. Zena shook her head and started pacing again, too restless to stay still for long. She sighed and lay down near Tori. She took her ponytail down and started to braid her hair and after a while she started humming a song her mother had taught her, though it wasn't known by most centaurians. Her parents had both learned the song while helping to free others captured by rukes, and taught it to their children. He listened. She started singing, her voice soft and sweet. She finished the song and her braid at the same time and looked down, letting her hands fall to her lap.
"Your a gifted singer." Charon said. Zena looked up to him tears shimmering in her eyes before she blinked them away "Thank you" she said softly
He nodded.
Krystal looked up at him, and rubbed her encrypted hoof print that dwelled in her head. Charon arched a brow, "What are you?" "Achlys. " She replied, faintly groaning. "Death Mist?' " he started to laugh. She raised a brow, "a what ?"
"That is what your races name mean in greek." He smirked. "Well i'm not geek. " she grumbled. "What are you?"
"Just a hybrid." He smirked. "Names Charon." "Okay. .what species then? I'm Krystal. " she answered. "Kelishan and Human." "Never heard of them, what you here for? " she asked. "The found my pod." "Oh that sucks, were where were you headed? " She asked. "I don't know." Charon answered.
"Journeying around huh? Well it's sure fun at times." "I was imprisioned in it..:" Charon added. "Oh how rude. " She huffed. "Indeed." Charon said.
"Well were did you come from?" Krystal asked.
"Earth." Charon answered. "I wonder if it's beautiful there. " Krystal leaned against the wall. "It was, the last I was there." He said
"Care to describe it? " Krystal asked. Zena listened quietly to Charon and Krystal
"I'll show you." He waved his hand, and images of ancient greece appeared.
"How cool. " Krystal watched the images. "What's up?" Krystal smirked, glancing at Zena. Zena watched the images. She smiled to Krystal "Not much in here. I'm Zena, this is Tori. Thanks for trying to rescue us." She said then returned her attention to the images. "My name is Krystal and your welcome, but that's not the true reason I came over. " She corrected.
Zena flushed slightly "I didn't think it was, but you did try to help us, and that deserves thanks." "Well thank you for being considerate. " Krystal nodded.
Zena dipped her head then looked back to Charon "The images are lovely"
"Thank you." He said.
The stallion came in, he went to grab Zena, she was the first to go up for sale. Charon watched with pity. Zena stood and backed away, eyes widening at his approach. He grabbed her, "come on sweety." Zena shook her head, but offered no other resistance for the moment. "Leave her be. " Krystal snarled. He rolled his eyes, "Can it sea horse" HE grabbed Zena, taking her out.
Krystal stood upup, "let her go, I'm not going to ask again." she growled.
"Don't" Charon warned. "Listen to him." The stud smirked. "Alright. " Krystal sat back down. Zena glanced at Krystal, following him out of the cell.
He brought her to the selling block. Zena glanced around fearfully.
She was put up for sale, and the bids started. Valick was a smaller Ruke but by no means less fierce. He eyed her then put in a bid. The other were on their way over. He watched. Zena kept glancing around at all the rukes bidding on her. Valick upped his bid. Zena shifted uneasily, watching the rukes. The bid was closing and Valik started to loose. He then shouted a high amount and the biding stopped. The stallion that was starting to win smirked at him.
Zena looked from one to the other silently. Valick glared knowing there may be trouble between them later. He winked at Zena. Zena blinked and side-stepped away from them, though she had no where to go. Zena watched the two bidding on her, then closed her eyes and buried her face in her hands as she waited for the bidding to finish. After a while it ended. Zena glanced up to see who had won
It was the rival stud, he smirked at her. She shivered and glanced around as she waited to find out what would happen next. He went to pay for her, then took her. Zena stared at him for a moment before dropping her eyes and following.
"Good girl." He smirked, taking her arm. An unstoppable shiver went through her as he took her arm, though she remained quiet for the moment, following where he led, what else could she do.
The stud smirked, "Whatcha name sweetie?" "Z-Zena" She answered, glancing up at him. "Zena eh? Names Rikures" He said
Zena nodded, glancing at him again "Rikures, what" She said softly pausing for a moment before she could continue "What is going to happen to me?" "Your going to become my wife." He answered "Oh" she said, voice nearly a whisper. She glanced around again, but did not see any way to get out of theis situation.
He smirked and took her to his ship. Zena blinked and looked around, then glanced back as she entered the ship, worried for Tori. He put her in a room, locking the door behind him. Zena looked around the room curiously. It had his things, and clothing for a female around her size. Zena shook her head and continued to look around but she was in there for a long time. After a while Zena lay down and closed her eyes, unable to stay awake any longer. The ship started to landbut she did not wake.
He smirked and opened the door, "Rise and shine sweetie"
Zena startled awake. She stared at him a moment as she stood then looked around the room. "Come on dearie, welcome to your new home." Zena moved towards him "Home?" she asked softly. "Yup." He smirked. She stopped beside him, watching him carefully. He took her arm, "Keep your head low, and no eye contact other then me." Zena blinked quickly and lowered her head. "Alright" She said softly. He took her through the main area of tents. She kept her head down, though she did glance to the sides as they passed the tents. She was careful no to meet anyone's eyes. He led her into his tent it was rather well set up, "I have something I need to do, pantry is there."Zena looked around the tent then back to him. She started to say something, but changed her mind and moved to the pantry. "Don't try to escape." He left. She watched him leave and touched the torque around her neck "Not likely with this thing" She said quietly, then turned to see what he had in the pantry. Zena picked out ingredients and started cooking a quick meal. She started to hum as she moved simply because she disliked long silences. She was soon singing to herself, her voice sweet and pure
Valick intentionally bumped into Rikures just outside his tent. "Punk." He growled. Rikures rolled his eyes, "Shut it shorty, I won fair and square."
"Fair.. well Rikures mares tend to stray now and then." Valick snorted then continued. He was like a pressure cooker, and he was ready to explode, heaven help the mare he got his hands on. Rikures rolled his eyes, "Doubtful this one will, better luck next time maybe." Zena finished cooking and sat down to eat, when she finished she started to clean up after herself singing again, trying not to think of where she was and what would happen to her. She had grown quiet and now her thoughts turned to what she had been trying to avoid thinking of, her family and her past. He came back. Zena pushed the thoughts away when he came in. She stood "I don't suppose there is any way for me to go back home, is there?" "Nope." He walked up to her then kissed her. Zena stepped back, eyes widened in surprise. He smirked, "Well you didn't slap, good." He did it again.
Zena raised her hands to push him away, even as she stepped back again "Please, don't" She said, almost whispering as fear and denial stole her voice. He grabbed her wrist, "Ah ah ah." Zena froze, staring at him and trembling. He started to get frisky. "No,no no" Zena said, getting louder with each denial until she pushed away, rearing and striking out almost blindly. *wham* He cold cock her, "Nothing you do with change it." He growled.
Zena backed away, shaking her head to clear it. She glared at him "If you expect me to simply accept this, you can forget it." She growled, surprising herself.
He smirked, "Of course not, makes it all the fun." Zena narrowed her eyes and let her anger come out. She charged him, hoping to take him off guard. He grabbed her, unfazed, "ah, how sweet. " He smirked, holding her tightly.
Zena struggled, but could not best him in sheer strength. Eventually she stopped, panting from her efforts, unable to stop him from doing as he wanted.
He smirked and stroke her hair, "See, it wasn't that bad." Zena tossed her head and moved away from him. She stood with her hands fisted by her side and did not speak. He smirked, "There new clothing for you in those bags." Zena watched him warily. She slowly relaxed her hands, moving towards the bags as if to look at the clothes, then she bolted for the tent opening. He got up, heading to follow. Zena bumped into another stallion. He smirked and snatched her arm. "Are you lost?" Rikusus trotted up, his eyes glowering to Zena, all things in mind for a ruke, he was rather gentle to her. Zena shook her head, pulling her arm away from the other stallion without looking at him or Rikures. He snorted, snagging her hair tightly. "Got yourself a wild one Rikures.. if you get tired of her I might pay you 50% mark up." He smirked then walked on leaving him to deal with his mare.
Zena closed her eyes, moving closer to ease the pressure his grip put on her hair. She ignored the other ruke. He growled, "Come on." He drug her by her hair.
Zena winced and followed quietly. He tossed her in the tent, then slapped her. Zena backed away, then stood still. She still did not meet his eyes.
"Never, ever do that again." He growled. Zena blinked quickly, her head still down. "I can not promise, but I will try not to." He glowered, "Your lucky that I am not like the other stallions." He snorted. Zena raised her head, meeting his eyes for a moment before looking away again. "Lucky? I have had too much of this kind of 'lucky' in my life." She turned away, staring at a wall "Lucky to survive, lucky to have an uncle to take you in." She paused and everything about her seemed to droop "Lucky to have not disappeared like my siblings" He rolled his eyes, "Can you cook?" Zena blinked at the change of subject. She shook her head and looked at him "Of course I can cook." "Good, make a meal." He snorted. Zena watched him for a moment, but decided against saying anything else, she had enough bruises for one day. She turned to the pantry 'Glad I actually like cooking' she thought. She thought a moment then stuck her head out of the pantry "What do you want to eat?" "I have meat in the ice box." He remarked.Zena went to the icebox and studied the selection a moment, then started gathering the ingrediants she would need. She let herself forget where she was as she worked, and was soon singing softly, planning her next move. He just watched.
Zena didn't falter or glance to him as she cooked. When the food was ready she put some on his plate and returned to the kitchen. She quietly starting to clean up. He ate. Zena stood still with her eyes closed, waiting. A smile flitted accros her lips as she thought of the cafe. He finished, "I will be gone for a few hours, don't leave." He snorted. "Alright" Zena said softly, moving to gather his dishes as he left. This was not the time to do anything else. Zena relaxed. She ate a little then finished cleaning up the kitchen, then moved around the tent. She ended up by the bags of clothes he had brought her earlier. Curious she started looking through them. An assortment of styles were in it.
Zena picked up the bags and took them to the bedroom to put them away.
The place was a mess. Zena looked around the mess, then put away her clothes and started cleaning. Clothing was spewed everywhere, same with dishes and other things. She started a laundry pile and dishes pile, putting the rest away or in a third pile to be cleaned later, after everything had been picked up and sorted.
He came back and Zena paused when she saw him, then continued cleaning.
"Well..."
Zena turned back to him when he spoke, watching him calmly "You will have to show me where to wash the laundry at." "I will." He said. Zena nodded and watched him a moment longer, then turned back to her cleaning. He went to their bed mat. Zena did her best to ignore his presence and continue as though he wasn't in the room with her. Since that side was done except for the three piles, she could. He got the place ready for sleep. Zena picked up the last bits in the corner, then moved to get the dishes out of the room. He watched. Zena removed the last of the dishes and washed her hands, then returned to the room. She looked around quietly.
He watched her get the baskets ready to be washed the next daythen lead her to the wash station. Zena moved to the wash station, glancing at the other mares, then started washing. They stared at her. Angeline was just coming to do hers as well. Lola and Kassidy had just finished and the cruel mares were taking up the wash station. The wash station had 12 units. But the dominant mares hogged an entire side. Look its a baby face." One peeked through. She had scars on her face. Zena ignored the comment, keeping to her side. She glanced at the speaker quickly. "Timid.. so who picked you up sweetheart?" She cackled.
"Rikures" Zena said looking at the mare, then turning back to her laundry. "Ah." She looked and noticed Rikures watching so she left Zena alone. Zena glanced to her again, then around at the other mares as she scrubbed a shirt. Angeline came up next to her washing. She had bruises around her neck. She kept her head down. As she started to scrub. She whispered. "How is home?" Zena glanced to Angeline curiously. "Home?" Her eyes took on a faraway look as she thought of it. She shook her head gently "The same as it has been. Where are you from? I'm Zena by the way" She kept her voice soft and didn't stop washing. "Larkspur city on Centauria... my stallion took 6 of us.. he kept me." She looked at the tent which was right on the edge of the serving area to make sure he wasn't watching. His name is Conner.. make sure you stay away." She continued to whisper only. "I am not even allowed to talk to you." "That's where my uncle's cafe is. I was caught there and bought by Rikures" She said softly "Why can't we talk to eachother?" She asked curiously. "My stallion says I can't talk to anyone. I have 10 minutes to do the laundry." She was scrubbing vigorously. "I want to go back.. my best friend is here too.. Kraken kept her."
"The only one I know is Rikures. I got seperated from my friend when I was sold." She frowned "I don't even know where she is" She sighed and shook her head, grabbing another shirt, her last one. "Well if I figure a way out, I'll try to help you" Angeline started to shake. "It's not easy and my stallion will kill me if I try to leave." "I don't even have the beginnings of a plan yet, so calm down, please." Zena said and glanced around quickly "Easy or not, I will find some way to go home, no matter how long it takes " "You sped a few hours with Conner and repeat those words." Angeline sighed. "Good luck.. I hope you make it."
Zena gave her a soft smile and nodded "Thanks, you too" She said and gathered the baskets to go back to the tent. She put the clothing up and turned to him.
Zena shifted her feet, nervously. She looked around the room, trying to find something else to do. "There is a roast tonight, we are heading to it." He said
Zena looked back to him "A roast?" She asked, not understanding the term. "A bon fire." He replied. "Oh" Zena said and smiled, thinking of the bonfires she had been to on Centauria. He nodded...
Zena blushed and looked away, unsure of what to do or say again.
The rukes were drinking and their mares sat in the shadows quietly. Some were dancing about trying to force their mares into the mood for dance. A few did willingly. Rikures was eating. Zena sat in the shadows, watching quietly, after a while he came to get her to dance with. Zena stood and moved into the dance with him. "See, not that bad." He smirked. "I love dancing" Zena said softly, enjoying herself. "So do I." He smirked, kissing her. Zena blinked quickly, but did not fight him, she already knew the consequences of fighting him, and they would probably be worse for a public fight. He kept on dancing. Zena dropped her head, and kept dancing. "Its not that bad here." He said softly. Zena looked up to him, speaking just as softly "Maybe not when you are free to come and go as you wish to. But when you don't know what will set someone off, it is very frightening" "Most females don't want to come here." He shrugged. "We are taught to be frighted of rukes, and your behavior, as a group, supports that fear" Zena said. He rolled his eyes. Zena watched him quietly, once again unsure. "Hungry?"
Zena nodded "Yes" He brought her with him to get some more food.
Zena chose her food, putting it on a plate and stepping back when she had enough. He got some more for himself. Zena waited for him, trying to stay out of the way. Far into the night he grabbed her to head back, he smelled of whiskey. Zena let him lead her back to the tent quietly, thinking
He kissed her again, getting on the frisky side of things. Zena narrowed her eyes, but didn't fight this time. If the plan she was thinking of was to work, she needed him to trust her at least a little.
He was snoring beside her. Zena shifted and turned to look at him, watching him sleep for a moment before moving out of the bedroom. She peeked out of the tent, looking outside. Zena made herself comfortable in the main room and fell asleep, since she had been unable to sleep next to the snoring Rikures. The next morning he slowly woke, groaning. Zena stirred at the sound. She blinked and rose, looking around before moving towards the bedroom. He slowly sat up.
Zena watched him quietly, head tilted a little to the side. He looked at her, "What time is it?" Zena looked to a clock "Nine thirty" "Ouch." He yawned.
Zena couldn't help the smile that came to her lips "No one in my family drank, so you will have to tell me if you need anything this morning."
"No, I'm fine.." HE mumbled. Zena nodded and started to turn away, then turned her head back "Do you want breakfast?" "Yes.." He answered groggily.
Zena nodded and went to the kitchen to start cooking breakfast. He slowoly got up, shaking his body. Zena was singing softly as she cooked pancakes
He slowly made his way to the smell of food. She was placing his pancakes on a plate as he came in. She turned and put the plate on the table where there was already an assortment of toppings laid out. She turned back to finish cooking
He sat down, and began to eat. Zena turned back to the table when she finished cooking. He watched her. She looked away, blushing, then took her plate and moved to sit at the table with him. He smiled at her. Zena smiled back, tentatively. He ate his bacon. Zena ate her breakfast quietly
He soon finished. She finished and rose to gather the dishes
"...Do you need help?" He asked
Zena looked at him directly, then back to the dishes "No, not unless you just want to." She said and turned to the sink with the dishes. "Okay.."
She set the dishes by the sink and glanced at him "I wash, you rinse?" She asked with a light teasing note in her voice. "Sure."
Zena turned back the the sink and started washing while he rinsed. Zena kept stealing glances at him as she washed "You are as quiet as my brother." She commented to break the silence. "Don't have much to talk about." He shrugged
Zena frowned thoughtfully as she finished washing and he put the dishes away. She cleaned the table and counters as he got his daggers. and his bow. "Heading out hunting." "Alright, good luck" Zena said softly. He nodded, leaving. Zena moved to the tent's door, watching as he entered the forest. She looked around at the other tents from the doorway, watching for a pattern to the movements.
