Start laying eggs this late?

I don't know if they will wait until spring or not, but the shortening days have not seemed to affect my pullets at all. I have 11/13 that are laying now, one just started last week. The two that are not laying look close to starting. If they don't, I don't believe I will worry about it too much because I can't keep up with our eggs now as it is. I've been giving them away left and right. We average 8 eggs a day. I have one day a week where I only get 6, and one day a week that I get 10, almost like clockwork.

Day length/season doesn't seem to effect first year layers that much. Normally if a pullet is ready to lay, she will regardless of the season. Right now I've got 34 birds that started laying this fall and I'm getting a consistent 20 to 24 eggs a day and don't expect that to change until they moult next fall. I do have them under 14 hrs of light and will all winter.

Shut them up in the coop for a few days so they learn where the eggs should be laid. That is if you don't want to do an Easter egg hunt, every day.

I have 3 RIR girls and 1st one laid 10/28 @ 27 wks, others seemed to follow within days. I just started 14 hours of light and have gotten an egg/day from each one with one day off. Yippee! Just be patient, It is so awesome!
