Started with 2, up to 12 within a week!

:welcome Chickens are addicting. I started out like most people with 6 birds. Shortly I added another dozen then another dozen. Eventually I started hatching. There has been a time when I had around 500 birds but now I'm down to around 100 +/-. I usually hatch out around 200/300 chicks yearly knowing around half will be males. This year I'm only hatching out around 100. Good luck and have fun...

I don't have a nanny cam but do have game cameras set up.
My poor little Rock (blue) and Pebbles (white) passed on day 7 and 8. Of course the next week I drove back and bought 3 more. Lennon (splash) passed on day 6. Idk why these silkies aren't making it pass their first week, I haven't lost any regular size chicks. Received one tiny Mille Fleur from Meyers that arrived DOA but 4 deaths total in 2 weeks is kind of a bum. Even a game camera could've saved some if I'd noticed they were not eating/drinking or getting weaker.

Temperature issues, early cases of coccidosis. I have heard of e coli killing young chicks too.

Necropsy is the way to go to find out for sure. Some places have low cost or free service for backyard flocks
