We bought our farm house in May and the two acres have inspired me to raise chickens. I had one RIR growing up (Rosie) and love the idea of watching the birds peck around the yard.

The funny part is- I don't eat eggs. I think I was around five when I decided the smell wasn't appealing. I don't mind them hidden in foods such as fried rice or french toast and the strangest part is that I LOVE egg nog.

My husband and two kids love them so I am more than happy to let them eat all the eggs.

In comes 'Boo Boo' and 'Figaro.' (All the following pictures are from the last few days so just use your imagination and picture them as day old chicks)

They were sold to me as RIRs but I have never believed that. They sure do look like EEs or some other random cross breed.

I fell in love instantly and purchased 'Pluto' the next day.

They grew up so fast that I had to ask my husband for a coop for my birthday the next week. He tried to sell me on other designs but this was the tractor for me.

Here is one from when they were little.

So life goes by for a few months and then it happened. I heard the first crow :(

Thanks to this forum, I know that the Roo was Pluto. So he needed to go. I don't eat eggs and have a hard enough time making them every morning for my kids. I draw the line at fertilized eggs. I'm not mentally prepared for that.

Here is the goodbye picture and it was good to know that he was sold that day. I don't want to think about where he is now though :(

While there, I picked up these two Lavender Guineas- 'Pig' and 'New.'

And I spent four days searching for friends for them. Finally this morning I found two Silver Laced Wyandottes- 'Mr. Pettibone' and 'Butch' (My son loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.)

I'm so excited!
