Starting my revolution!

I live in a rural area in Colorado. If there are 800 people in this town that would be a high number. And guess what - we are NOT allowed to have chickens. Most people here have quarter acre lots. Plenty of room. Being the renegade I am - I have 4 chickens anyway. I've had them since February. New neighbor moves in behind us and now we are cited and have to get rid of them.
But - I'm not going down without a fight.
So here are the steps I'm taking:
Submit a petition to City Council to change the laws
Begin an online petition for people of the town to sign: https://www.change.org/petitions/keenesburg-chickens
Print out posters letting people know where to sign petition
Go door to door with petition to physically sign
Put an ad in the local paper to tell council to change the laws
Post on craigslist to get the word out about signing the petition

I hope this helps - everyone should have backyard chickens or at least the right to have them if they want!

I'll keep you posted.

Just wanted to say that, while I'm not in the same situation you are, we're moving (tomorrow!) to a new town that doesn't have an ordinance stating one way or another about the chickens but I plan to work on that with the help of another local BYC'er.

I'll keep an eye on your thread here so please update.
You can watch our progress on the IL thread here I'm sure we'll update with a thread specific to our town once I've gotten settled in at the new house. And have internet again. :(

Laura,
Any updates on your revolution?
I've just moved into our new house and will be working on a ordinance change as well.
