Starting out as a duck mama

I have 2 rouens. Rouens have 2 strips on their face, mallards have 2! If it were me, I’d probably just give them all a home and when the time comes, let the mallards fly away at winter time. But that’s me!

Honestly that is kind of what I am considering too lol. My back yard back up to the creek they live in, so once the mallards can fly they can just leave if they want or come and go as they please. Lol. Then if they leave we will just get a friend for the rouen so she's not alone. We just need to get the last side of our fence put up and get a home for them and we may try to catch them. We can pet them so hopefully it won't be too hard.

I meant mallards have 1 strip.

Oh that is funny. My husband calls me a crazy duck lady, I talk about them all day. I have also chased off older ducks who were picking on these babies, especially when they were smaller. There is a mama mallard with 8 babies who was trying to drown my babies about 3 weeks ago. Now that they are bigger that mama and her babies do chase mine off and pull their feathers but not the awful attacks like before. My babies are very scared of them and keep a distance. I worry about predators a lot with them down in the creek We have coyotes come through here and raccoons and lots of ospreys and hawks. (One reason I want them safe in my yard lol) That sounds alike a perfect plan, a run during the day and free range while supervised with a house a night. That's funny yours like their room better

They do like their room oddly enough. I know they feel safe in there. Sometimes when Loo gets scared she wants in her room..so funny. They get all the same goodies as when outside and have a blast making huge messes. I give them the mud tub, food tub, herb tub, water tub and food dishes are off in the other corner. It's about a 6 x 7ft space with 2 windows for extra light. And sometimes there is mud splattered 4ft high. I spent a lot of money on the predator proof pen but still like their room for bedtime. I had neighbor problems.. the kids were shooting bb''s at them. So I just decided to lock them up while I'm gone and tried to give them the outside.. inside lol. They are brats :) Keeping the safe has been a challenge. There are so many predators out there and they have no way to protect themselves.

Those look like some very happy, spoiled ducks!! that is horrible the neighbors were shooting bbq's at them! Some kids are so mean. I have yelled at kids who walk by the creek and harass the ducks and geese, it makes me so mad. I'm glad your ducks have a safe happy place and that's so cute she wants in her room when she's scared.
