Starting to believe the hype is just that: hype.

BigDaddy'sGurl :

I had planned on investing in a whole flock of these birds come spring to start an egg business...no longer! I will go with what seems to be working for me: barred rocks.

If you still want an egg business, go with Townline's ISA Browns. Mine have laid 330+ their first pullet year. The outlay my Rocks by 30% while eating 25% less feed, because they weight 25% less in body weight. That difference is the only way I can make a buck with eggs.

I love Rocks. But for my business end, I go with production reds or ISA Browns, with NOTHING I've ever had touching the ISAs.
I could only base my egg business on Rocks if I charged $3.50 a dozen, which my local market will not support.

She's still pretty young to get too excited. I really think when pullets come of laying age in the dead of winter that mother nature just doesnt let them kick in like they would if it was spring. If you're positive of her age, you really need to give her more time. The days are just barely getting longer now.
