:pop Following. Some thoughts....

I'm reading Eating on the Wild Side by Jo Robinson. (Not sure who recommended it.) It's making me rethink what to grow in my garden, for better nutrition.

Stuff that comes out of my garden that makes it to the house gets rinsed with water, mostly to get rid of sand.

Cilantro grows pretty "wild" in my garden now. I planted it once, and it has reseeded itself every year since. The seeds are coriander, just in case you didn't know.

Garlic is easy to grow, but it get planted in the fall up here in Michigan. I bought cloves 4 years ago, and have had plenty to eat and grow ever since. The variety is "Music," a hardneck variety. Hardnecks give two crops: the flower stalk, or "scape," in early summer, and then the cloves later on.

Onions planted by my potatoes seemed to do especially well. So did the taters.
Onions growing next to the potatoes, that really interesting.
I had better success growing in the past but no luck here so far. I have this raised bed I really must start working on. Maybe your way will be my first attempt this year. Thank you :)

Hold on a minute....

"Asparagus, carrots, fennel, turnips, and onions seem to stunt the growth of potatoes."

I just found that online. Not sure what happened with my lot, but

This year I'm going to move some things around. I do know that onions and peas/beans DO NOT play well together.

The onions I had around my tomatoes didn't do as well as the ones by the potatoes. I had some BIG potatoes, but also lots of small ones too. Maybe there is something to the info I just read online.

Oh, here's something from that book, Eating on the Wild Side. Garlic is good for you, we knew that. Raw garlic can be a little harsh, but cooking it can destroy the healthy stuff. But, according to studies, if you mince or press the garlic, and let it sit for 10 minutes before you heat it, the good stuff is retained.

I'm not going to retype the whole page where I read this (pg 51). Suffice to say, I'll be mincing/mashing and then resting my garlic before I toss it in a pan from now on.

I plant my onions/garlic w my brassicas (kale, cabbage, brussel sprouts). Plant lettuces & Basil under my tall nightshades (potatoes separately). And ccurcubits (zucchini, squash, cukes) with my climbing legumes (beans & peas). This is after years of trial and error. Hopefully this helps someone!

Bees

Using 5 to 8 drops of thyme oil into 16oz of mineral oil then sprayed onto a paper towels shape into an S then placed ontop of the frame this could help too reduce mites.

Bees like lemongrass oil...

If your bees have vaccinated their hive maybe this will help...
Place one to 2 drops of lemongrass into the nuc, this is likely to buzz up their pheromones and they should go back into their hive
