The cabbage moth is the source of the caterpillars. They are the pretty little white butterfly looking things with the black spot on the wings.

Various thicknesses can also be used for frost protection.

The working and living conditions for the workers are not very good. Basically they live in communal camps in the midst of the plantations, surrounded by barb wire topped high chain link fences.

I read that the avocado had caused a lot of human problems with water etc, but I had not heard of banana slavery before

Ideally it's best too buy locally but in UK there's not so much choice of fruit plus I've become accustomed too the more exotic fruits. So the more I can learn the better and maybe some of the people around me would be interested on how to remove some of these chemicals.
