Staying as Healthy as We Can Food and Pesticides

Lettuce I'd use water and vinegar I'll have to think about the coriander/cilantro because even washing this loses the flavor.

Honestly if you have even 1 sunny window or a place outside for a few small pots, cilantro is very easy to grow. Just add a few seeds every 2-3weeks for a harvest all season long! (I don’t wash anything that I grow myself unless it is visibly muddy). ❤️. My basil plant was brought in at the end of September and lasted me til January. I plucked the leaves that were left and hung them for dry Basil.

We make a conscious choice to try to buy in-season, local produce, storing what we can. The exception is bell peppers. My DS eats half a raw sliced pepper every night by choice, so I wash them carefully until I can grow them or find them from a local organic farm.

Side note: blue/purple potatoes are AMAZING.

So, you have to constantly plant seeds? I tried growing cilantro but once it grew it started to die. I didnt know when to cut or if it would grow back.

Now you got me. :D it had to be you didn't it :tongue :hugs

What kind if vinegar? ACV or white distilled vinegar?

If I grew my cilantro inside the house, do you have to wash them?
Off topic.

The wind is building up here.
Thank goodness I got my dog outside for his duties and just about got my cat back in before it got too bad.

My chickens had a little time out at 7.30am for a good hour and their feed and water has been topped up. They had fried eggs around 8am . So I'm happy they are all well fed

Right now we are all locked in. I don't know if the electricity will go off at some point and in turn my internet.
Stay warm and hopefully the electricity stays on!
Grapefruit seed extract. People shorten it to GSE. Here’s a link

FYI I prefer to soak my veg/fruit rather
Than just spray.
Thank you for the link!

How long do you soak them?

Cilantro will reseed itself if left to grow out, but we use so much in the summer I plant a few sprigs (just sprinkle seeds.) 2-3 weeks later sprinkle a few more, etc. Basil and parsley will grow with one planting. Cilantro needs to be seeded every few weeks as it doesn’t last long.

A few minutes, less for greens more for waxed stuff like apples and cukes. If you grow your cilantro inside, well I’ll be honest here and admit I just rinse mine. It hasn’t been outside with potential bird poop and such so…

Makes sense. Should they be in their own pot? I've got a sunny window in the livingroom, I'm definitely going to try this again!

Sweet! plus it's not like pesticides are needed as much indoors. I've had my fair share of gnats so I havent done anything indoors except succulents 😅
