If my egg was born on 1 July I start my count on 2 July. I put it in lock down on the 19th and be born between the 21st and 22nd. Of course this all depends on the chic. bator temps/humidity/too much handling or candling. I too am learning, once in lockdown....leave them alone! I hope someone else chimes in here and can help us both out !

ohhhh ok thanks!!! i have been looking at all the eggs when my hen gets up to poop should i stop touching them??? will they die if i keep touching them??

Well, If they are not in lock down, then the hen is turning them I am sure as she moves around. But I think as time progresses they need to set to position themselves for hatching. I have heard on BYC that it's not really good to pick them up and wigglle them all the time. I had to explain that to my 6 yo granddaughter. I told her she was making scrambled eggs. I am sure if you are very gentle, it may be okay. Mine are always in the bator and clean. But I am sure a broody chicken moves them around. I hope all goes well. Would love to see pics when they hatch. I think why mine did not hatch from lockdown was the knob got moved by my cat rubbing her face on the knob. When my husband thought to check it it was already 120. He aired it out and reset the temp but that may have done it too. Needless to say he just told me after he noticed I was throwing away eggs. Accidents happen. I have 10 or so good eggs in the bator now. These should hatch
