Stealin' my customer!!

I think this gives you a perfect opportunity to find a new customer! Try farmers market type places, other grocers, health food stores or even ritzy little diners/restaurants. Words like 'free range' and 'cruelty free' or 'organic' (if it applies) can go a long way toward raising your bottom line.

Good luck!

Find a back up source for when your chickens are not producing. I buy from a guy when my birds slow down in laying and yes I lose money but maintain my customer base.

Wow $8 a DOZEN? I sold mine(just brown and blue) for $1.50 or $2. Hope you find someone else to buy the eggs. Are they fertile? Maybe hatchers would buy too.

I wouldn't see it as stealing a customer. The other supplier saw an opportunity and took it. As has been said, that's business.
I hope you find a replacement vender or customer soon for your girls.

It's not stealing or unethical in any way.
It's just business.

The other supplier may have a molt or slow period too,
so call the buyer and inform her that your eggs may be
avaible if or when it happens to your competition.

yes i would make sure you are there the same day everyweek with your eggs, or find out who is supplying the other eggs and duct tape them to a telephone pole

Do you have a free trade paper? Put ads in it and your local Sunday paper. Put signs in local feed and supply stores. Can you put up a roadside sign with contact info? Go to local farmers market, get to know one of the good produce suppliers and see if he/she will sell your eggs. Try some different marketing, you could be on to something that will pay for chicks up keep..

Personally, I wouldn't necessarily want the wholesale account back. You're selling at a "break even", as I said earlier, which in business, is really a loss. No such thing as break even. 12 dozen eggs per week can only mean you have upwards of 40-50 birds or more, figuring you keep a dozen or two for yourself and family. That is a lot of work and a huge overhead.

Those eggs are absolutely worth $3.00+ to knowledgeable buyers. No doubt, the store re-sold your eggs for that much, keeping the difference in profit, which they should. It is time to build a retail network of customers and start to make $12-$18 a week off your 12 dozen in sales. That is $48-$72 profit a month. That's gonna help cover the feed bill. You can do it.
