Finally got around to ordering some netting, opened it today, worked with it for 2 hours, and gave up. I am WAY beyond frustrated. I wonder if they sent me a defective section. It is SO obviously not 25'x50'... more like 4'-tapering-up-to-40'-back-down-to-4' x 50'...... I'm going to be lucky to cover a 20' x22' area with the stuff. But I've lost 2 chickens in the last two days because they have learned to fly over the 5' welded wire fence so I've GOT to make this work!!!! Any tips from those of you who have used it?!

This is the same material I ordered, just in a different length:

You need extra people to help stretch it.

Good morning, wondered why it was so quiet around here

Came home after a trip up north to 8" of new snow - thanks to my good friend who keeps her horses at my place my drive was plowed out. Lots of snow on the netting over the pens, if it was not supported in the middle it would have sagged to the ground. Not that it would be dangerous for my birds though as they will not set foot outside, the first year I have had such a big group of wussies.
Nice of them to plow for you!

Someone bought my quilted Holiday Table Topper off Ebay yesterday.

Our weather has been weird. Yesterday's forecast was for 45* and sunny. We had clouds and snow flurries, so it was mid 30's at best. Today, everything is white with frost and about 32*, but supposed to be sunny and mid 50's. We shall see.
Congrats on the sale!

Just re-homed 12 chickens!

I am down to 54.
Woo hoo! Love the 50's - always better than the 60's LOL.

Yes I have found that netting is usually irregularly shaped. However, generally it is about the size stated from my experience. So I would expect a 25 x 50 net to cover maybe 20 x 40 comfortably with some uplift in the middle...something like that.

It sounds like you might need to buy a second one to do your area if you are short. Or buy a 50 x 50 and use the smaller one for a growout pen??

I like the 50 x 50 size, which by the way after I stretch it out seems more rectangular.

Is it just me, or does my wagon look like a Currier and Ives print?

Yes! It sure does! I think you should make Christmas Cards with that on it! Lovely!

I did my netting by finding a corner, then attaching one short side, then one long side, the other long side, and finally stretching to attach the last short side. It definately would have been easier with help. It is very flexible, and can stretch out more than the actual size if you get it crooked (kind of on the bias), leaving you with some much shorter sides.

the key is to find the corner. It usually has a yellow ribbon. You need help for sure. I do mine myself but it looks better with hands. If you can attach one corner and loose fit the rest that is best. Then attach it when you get it how you want it.
I use nylon coated wire across the tops of my lodge poles every 8 feet it helps hold the netting up if you put it over it. There is a lot of back and forth and sometimes I have to cut my zip ties to adjust it If the corner is not straight it messes it all up if your run is close to the width of the netting and its not.
If its that far off Id contact the seller, It usually is a little larger than they say
is your run 22x20?

I did a 22x19 section yesterday. I used a piece of 50x10 it was a little easier than the last one I did but it was smaller. Just said heavy duty and not extra heavy duty but it will work.
I cut it in half and attached it that way securing it to the wire and the fence.

the other thing is sometimes it does take a few hours of frustration of just getting it up on the run and adjusting before you can tighten it. It will stretch fairly good

The run at Thistle Dew Ranch is vaguely rectangular and approximately 50X100 feet, so I ordered the same netting off e-Bay as the others, in the 50X100 size. Should have bee easy, no? There are a couple of trees against one side of the run and just INSIDE the run, which required some adjustments. Sure. Of course. Minimum two people - a third would have made it so much more easy to hang. Finding the "corners" indicated by red threads not wider loops moved us a bit forward through the process. It still took nearly five hours and quite a bit of swearing in frustration with the task (and sniping at each other to clarify the other person's directions) to get the whole run covered. The odd thing is there is much more netting left over than we expected. :idunno

I hear you on the sniping! I quit and let Michael do it alone because of it.
