A construction worker upset over noise, that's different. It really doesn't seem to be any of his business or concern what is going on at your home. Hopefully he'll just find out your zoned properly, or stop coming to the job site hungover.
We do live in California....

We do live in California....

or I could take my best guess on what that might mean.

It may be the same in other places but there are a lot of people that think they have the right to tell you what to do, even on your own property.

Oh. That's more suburbs and homeowner associations here. Not where we live, we're lawless

, as long as you're not working on a Sunday. Daily chores and dairy farming are ok on Sunday though.

It seems around here that the Gated Communities move out into the country and they try to tell People that have been there for years what to do.

Sometimes they even build by an Airport and then try to get them to stop flying planes....

Yes, or they build near farms, and complain about manure spreading day.

We're fortunate, our county is over 50% Amish, then on top of that it's Mennonite. Land doesn't change family ownership much, certainly not to developers. My wife's cousin bought her father's dairy farm, so he's 3rd generation on that farm. We don't have children, and they don't have children so the farm will be sold to someone in the Amish familynear us. At some point my wife and I will sell our property to the same family. What they tend to do is like a reverse mortgage, they'll buy the property, you live there just like it's yours until you decide to move or pass on. They're very patient, if it takes an extra generation, that's fine.

My house was here before anything else. It was the bunkhouse for the wealthy Schlage family who owned a mansion and a large ranch. Their twelve kids slept here in what is now our house . The adults slept across the road in the mansion until it burned down. Eventually the ranch was subdivided and became the lake of the pines Ranchos. Part of the land was sold to developers to build the gated community with houses on tiny lots across the road from the ranchos and specifically my house. Our house shows up on Nevada county records in 1894 and at sometime it was zoned Agricultural.

For a short time the lake of the Pines gated community was somewhat affluent with some houses costing millions. There are still some nice houses but for the most part it is in a state of disrepair. Lots of homes were lost to foreclosure and flipped by investors into rentals. Rumor has it that some of the houses are not even occupied, just rented out to marijuana growers.

Every person that lives over there knew this house was here and 144 other ranchos. If farm animals were going to bother them, they should have bought a hose in town.

I don't like the idea that we are bothering people but their unreasonable demands are inappropriate and the cursing at us is inexcusable. Cursing at my roosters is just ridiculous. It just makes them answer back! Idiots,

You are certainly not doing anything wrong, you purchased a property zoned for what you anted to do. The people are just jerks. Probably a bit jealous. That's funny, the rooster answering them back.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts.

Kelly, I have been considering getting bees this year, but using a Top Bar hive, have you seen any in action? We seem to have plenty of bees up here still - due to the heavy rocky soil and cedar swamps there is very little agriculture, and low density housing, so very little chemical spraying. Still, I would like to try a hive and the Top Bars look a little less intensive.

It is so strange when folks move to rural locations for the character, then try to change it to city living. My 3 neighbors across the road and next to me have, between them, about 15 acres that they mow down to where it looks like a billiard table. They must think I am pretty hillbilly with my dense woods, and small field by the road that I only mow every other year to keep the scrub down - it is a haven for wildflowers.

A worker on a drug withdrawal rage. I have seen similar irrational behavior with my x-narcissistic roomie. He was construction laborer and would smoke weed to kill the pain. He was clean when we got together and again a few years ago, but then became progressively worse to a point of irrational, uncontrollable rage.
He did punch a 6x4" hole into one of mydoors and ripped another one out of the wall, almost.

Anything could trigger him.

So, Mary, I would take down HIS license plate and record any of his outbursts with a security camera or cell phone voice recorder. Then I would ask for a drug test. Most important, document his anger. And yes, I would bevery careful

The idiot from across the road has construction workers doing stuff on the property. Today one of them screamed obscenities to us from the deck to "shut the f---ing roosters up!" He was angry and throwing things. He just came and sat in front of my house in his pick-up truck writing down my address. Makes me very anxious that something bad will happen to my chickens. Michael says not to worry but I still am.
