I don't think Jack and Diane would let her sleep in. They want their breakfast and hee-haw until they get it.

This morning was much better! However, what we had to do to the coops makes them practically unusable. There is zero light inside. I have to open the door blindly not knowing if chickens are standing right there. The doors open into the yard not the runs, so once they hop out, they are off and running! We chased chickens all day yesterday. I can't see in to see of feeders need filling. I can't see Lukka and her babies. So I don't know how all that will play out. Sure isn't the wonderful little chicken compound I imagined. I need to reset the sensitivity of the pop doors to open later because they are still out way too early crowing loudly.

Mary it should get better. Maybe cut windows that can open and close. above the door at the from leave that wire so there is airflow ???

What about a plexiglas panel so you can see food/water/doorway? But I guess then it wouldn't be dark inside...

Thanks everybody. We are weighing the options for getting light in there. Amazingly the roosters are very quiet here during the day, after the morning crow-off. My little cream legbars are croaking one or two out when they can, but other than that it is quiet. Judge Judy has resumed her role as alpha hen of the layer coop since they no longer have Isi to boss them around. Michael saw her dragging my Wellie Chatty Cathy around by her head feathers today.

Maybe she saw her reflection in the metal pop door and realized how "handsome" she is especially while molting. So she had to beat up the pretty girl.

Tractor Supply opened on Saturday! Yeah! I was driving by and saw the "Open Now" sign and hit the brakes. I bought new feeders, some cute chicken stuff for the kitchen, some feed, buckets, etc. It is an awesome store! I even went back a second time for more feeders. Now every coop has a new 10 lb feeder that doesn't have that thumb nut on the bottom! I hate those. It always comes off when they spin it around. Sorry I didn't wait to go with you Kelly.

The emu/goat shelter is almost done. Just needs the sideing. The framing is up, the kick panel in place as well as the roof. The sheeting for the sides was supposed to be delivered today but it didn't make it. At least if we do get the rain as predicted tomorrow they will have a roof over their heads. The emus will probably stand out in the rain but the goaty girls will be happy. We put up the temporary electric fence to keep the emus away from Allen while he built the shelter. I went out today to find two emus with their legs and feet all stuck in the netting. It was not electrified. When I freed them, they barreled right through the fence so I just let them go. Allen said they were pecking him when he first started working this morning. Then when he was trying to measure he would hook the tape on one end of the board and before he could stretch it out to the other end they took the hook off. She said he finally picked up a 2x4 and shoved it at their chests and told them to get away. They avoided him for the rest of the day! I am gonna' start clubbing them with a 2x4 myself every now and again.

Off to bed. Every bone in my body aches.
