Ack....been up since 2:45 a.m. with crowing roosters. I only have two roosters left too! Isi has been going non-stop. I am exhausted and it isn't even 7:00 a.m. yet. I may have to make a very painful decision soon about breeding and having roosters. These coops just don't work to muffle the sound. The roosters are in the two coops that never got insulation so maybe moving them to insulated coops might help. That would be the last hope. I need sleep and I am sure the neighbors do too. (although they handle have handled the situation badly)

On a more positive note, sweet Laverne yesterday morning.

Hi Laverne! I hope moving them to an insulated coop works. Is there an outside light hitting the coop? My roosters will be quiet, but if I turn the outside light on it seems to wake them up and some crowing will start.

Mine always do a crowing session around 4 a.m. and I have a baby monitor in my bedroom that receives from the main coop that has my 4 LF roosters currently serving the two main laying groups.
May I ask why the baby monitor?

Yikes, do you sleep through it?
I barely notice anymore. Sometimes, DH or I will get up and turn down the volume, but it doesn't bother me.

So we can hear if something or someone gets into the coop or dies during the night. Put one in the first year we had chickens and have had one ever since. I can hear the bantam roosters in the other coops crowing and coyotes howling and other stuff in the distance so it's fairly sensitive, plus mine has a night light on it as well.

Cyn, why that time? Mine do it too. Then they are quiet till after daylight. Right now I have one roo. Later I will get back a pretty white orp. that I raised for the first 8 wks. He is with my br. He no longer wants him. They are going to go with the Dells. instead. I have room for two roos. I could not bear to lose him. I had his brother who went completely lame early on. Never found out why, no obvious disease only disability. I think he jumped from the roost and dislocated something. They are so large that I think I may have their roost to high. Next redo will be to lower the roost area. I am back on the coast for a wk or two. Then if all goes well I will be back home for the summer and fall. I miss it sooo much. We just cleaned up everything this time. I scrubbed the coop with disinfectant and put in all new shavings and sweet pdz. I could have slept in there. No dust , cobwebs etc.
As you know I wanted buffs but since I will have two white orps of large size I will probably stick to them instead.

My coops are pretty secure. The biggest threat to them at night is that I will storm out in my PJ's, grab them off the roost, box them up and deliver them to the feed store at daylight.

I have tried something new with peaches who has decided the sun needs some help . I have a rooster box in the coop I have been popping him in at lock up. Its nice and snuggly and keeps the noise down. Peaches is right under my window so I hear him. I just used one of the tidy cat boxes I use as nesting boxes with ventelation holes in it. He can still strech and crow but he has to work at it so he does it much less.

I'd have to have 4 huge boxes and honestly, I'd rather they just do what they do. I don't really care about the neighbors. With my windows closed and the monitor off, I barely hear mine 100 ft away. I doubt the neighbors can hear them as well as I can and there are so many others crowing around me, mine are only a few among many.
